New Nightwish single released!

I don't like the guitar tone by itself, but I think it works really well in the mix. The guitars are able to be really loud while still leaving a lot of space for everything else in the mix, and letting the vocals come through super clear.

That still doesn't take away from the fact that the guitars are harsh and have little to no intelligibility. This has always been a problem with Nightwish. When someone throws the comment about how the guitars are more or less sacrificed to help the orchestras I think back to bands/albums like Dimmu Borgir-Abrahadabra, Septic Flesh-Communion and less orchestrated bands like Rammstein, Evergrey etc.

Its possible, but making the guitar tone sound like shit to let other instruments through is the cop out and lazy way to mix imo.

Why can't I like Nightwish at all? I mean, except for some old songs like Planet Hell (omfg epicness), Nemo, etc... Annette surely doesn't help, but even with Tarja I got bored at the end...

Highly subjective. I've always loved the guitar tones of Nightwish ("Once" in particular), and though I like Dimmu...really don't care for the guitar tones or see anything that special about them.
