Anyone have anything official on this? I have heard some people say there is one recorded. I haven't heard anything of the sort.

(God, I hate to be fanning rumors.)

Opeth have been on the road for like a year now. Just before that they recorded 2 albums back to back. They are releasing a live gig DVD, CD to hold you over. I would be surprised if anything surfaced before 2005

I think they're going into the studio this summer or near that. Maybe it'll be another fall release.

i'd bet on a fall 04 release. hopefully music to listen to while celebrating dubbyas ousting from office.

... not to mention a celebration of Steven Wilson's ousting from the producer's seat!

This Steve Wilson bashing is really getting tired now.... blackwater park sounded huge and the vocal production was awesome... the eerie almost unheard third harmony on harvest? genius. Opeth almost killed deliverance and damnation, and got bailed out by steve wilson (amongst others). He also wrote parts of the drapery falls, and the lyrics to one of the tracks on damnation (I forget which...) why do you want to get rid of him so damn much? People have this assumption that he's somehow steering the band in different directions according to his own tastes. Seeing as Akerfeldt wrote more or less 100% of the material, how is this the case? Steve Wilson is an absolutely fantastic producer - Blackwater park has some of my favourite production techniques ever put to record.

god damn hate porcupine tree though.

I don't like Wilson, or the influence he's had on parts of Opeth's music. It's undeniable that their clean sections are influenced by his music, and I wouldn't be surprised if more than that has been as well. Maybe it is just the progression of Opeth as a band that I don't like, but I'll only believe that once I see what Opeth can do without him anywhere near them. Whether it will happen or not is beyond me, and the stay/go poll I started isn't trying to invade on mikael and the band's authority, it's just an opinion poll, just as it is my opinion that Steven Wilson has had detrimental infleunces on the music. It is my opinion that their music was more enjoyable before his time with them, and that with a new producer (or possibly a self-produced album) as well as a little time off, they can not only equal their earlier works but surpass them.
Equally important to me as the change of producer is that they take enough time off so that the passion returns to their work. It seems that the last 3 albums have been rather forced, with Mikael being too lazy to write before entering the studio. The music is probably not as well-thought-out as it had been, and until that returns, I don't belive we'll have an album as good as the first four. I still enjoy BWP/D1/D2, I just find certain changes in style to be very lacklustre. Furthermore, I don't want another Morningrise or MAYH, I want something ORIGINAL, something never done before, something groundbreaking. I have no right to ask anything of the band, I am merely stating my opinion and my hopes for their future. This is my right. Try to tell me it isn't.
