New Opeth reviews

5/10 is a passing grade, so he passes all of them. No one cares about high school grading systems in the real world. And Wreath certainly does border on grindcore at times, justifying the quasi-grindcore label.

Hate to break it to you dude but 5/10 is 50% in and out of school. If a Cd gets a 50% that means its not good enough to be considered better than average. I think Opeth deserves higher ratings.
"Grindcore is characterized by heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars often showing crust punk-influenced riffs, blast beats by drummers, short songs, and a vocal style consisting of growls and higher-pitched vocals", thats the definition of Grindcore. The guitars in Wreath arnt downtuned, they dont have any crust punk influenced riffs, there arnt any blast beats, and the song certainly isnt short. Sure there are distorted guitars and growels, but alot of Opeth songs have distortion and growels. That doesnt make them Grindcore either.

+1

i think a lot of people are used to opeth being reviewed by opeth fanbois. i mean honestly, does it really matter what some guy youve never met doesn't quite like them as much as you do? or thinks theyre a slightly different genre than you think they are? as always it boils down to the 'i have an opinion, you have an opinion, lets leave it there' thing.

Rating Deliverance higher than GR and BWP is faggotry in my book

Something he said that was all the albums are good, and to choose between them is a matter of personal preference. Like many people here I think Deliverance is overall their weakest album, but it's weakness' may be strengths in other peoples eyes. For instance the album is much more repetitive than Ghost Reveries - this (IMO) adds to the coherence of the album, especially to someone coming from a rock (i.e. conventional songwriting) perspective like this reviewer. Composition is as much to do with was to leave out than as what to include. Some sections of Ghost Reveries contain 'too much' music IN MY OPINION, before someone calls me a fag

He explained why it didn't deserve it. You didn't.

That's why he said QUASI-grindcore.

Reviews aren't MEANT to be about how much you like something. There do exist standards to judge something outside of, you know, your own tastes. This is why some reviews are better than others and we shouldn't judge them as equally worthy.
