I don't understand the anti-rackmount thing they're doing these days. If you actually used this thing to it's potential your desk would be total chaos.

This thing looks cool. I will keep an eye on it since I've been looking at the Apogee Duet lately. I'm only a bedroom musician/studio, so the desktop setup works for me.
oh crap, it has ADAT. the main thing holding me back on the Duet was the lack of adat and one more output. Yes!

It's logical they release a 4in to fill the gap between the duet and the ensemble but I don't see myself with only 4in, it's not enough for drum tracking, and more than enough for home studio use. I would be interested in it if it were 8in. The strategy is maybe to motivate serious buyers into setting up the Quartet/Ensemble duo.

But I don't blame them as long as they release quality products, and the duet sold me. Just the way it is integrated in the os makes my life easier. This is kind of irrelevant in the case of a static studio though.

Yep, I think this thing is cool. I'm pretty much only mixing and recording vocals at home so it would be perfect for me.

I work at a studio. I do a lot of mixing at home. Perfect for people in a similar position. You could be right about the quartet/ensemble or quartet/duo thing.
Probably. Dunno how recording up to 8 simultaneous channels at 192 would go down with USB 2 though. Never tried so I can't really comment.
Still - great conversion, 4 mic amps, monitor controller (doubt it has talk back though)... this thing is ok.

If you're just mixing at home why not opt for a Duet2? Are you using enough outboard to justify the Quartet and to not go for an RME instead?

I see what you mean but it's perfect if you need to track a few guitars/vocals and reamp. Two out units piss me off.
+1, if this thing was rack mountable, I'd like it a whole lot more. I could care less about all the digital displays and fancy touch pad shit. Take that crap out and put 2-4 analog inputs on it and this thing would be epic
Now, if they put some kind of DAW control into the digital displays, it'd be another thing - But who cares about a touch pad that allows you to select channels so you can adjust their volume? Put a damn knob in its place and save a few hundred
If the price was closer to $1000, I think this thing would sell really well, but there's a lot of good stuff in the $1300 range already that have more features and can actually be racked.
It's for S/MUX.
Using some outboard and on occasions I'm using more than 2 mics at home. Duet2 looks a great unit too.
