New Slipknot stuff..

I love how Slipknot started out brutal, then sold out with Self-titled, and then bought back in with Vol 3. Self-titled is mostly catchy nu-metal, which is good when you don't want to concentrate, but I also love the new direction which is edging towards death metal. Still accessible, though. I'm looking forward to this album.

I would hardly describe Mate Feed.. as Brutal. Its jazz!

I wouldn't really describe S/T as being catchy either (compared to their later stuff).. but horses for courses and all that.

You're right, brutal's the wrong word for it. I guess I was searching for... inaccessible, probably. Difficult to pick up and appreciate straight away. S/T had its standout weird tracks, but I found the material tended towards memorable, straightforward stuff.

30 seconds samples of each song of the new album right here :

I definitely want to hear the whole thing.

Guitars sound fuckin' great. Drums seem a bit too "clicky/processed/unnatural" sounding but i guess i shoudl wait to hear the real album to judge.

Corey vocals in song #8 sound very like... Queens of the Stone Age IMO :) (especially the vibrato)

It still sounds like Slipknot but it seems they put a lot of new "fresh/uncommon/original" stuff in here... like the chorus in song #10.

When i listen to all the samples i guess people are like "it sounds like catchy mainstream choruses all the time" but it's just 30 samples, focussing on the chorus i think, so it's not representative of the "heavy shit" on the album i guess.

The album seems very diverse also which i like.

EDIT: I'm already in love with song #10 and enjoy the QOTSA vibe on #8.

I REALLY like the video for Psychosocial... but I dont really dig the song...

Kinda the opposite for me... Love the song and i don't think the music video complements the song so much, even if from the "cinematographic" aspect it's a great video.

IMO, Corey does much better vocally with Stone Sour as does Jim with writing...

I think they both do better things in Slipknot even if i dig some of Stone Sour stuff.

They should have have put out 'All hope is gone' for the first single. But I can understand why they went with Psychosocial because its more radio friendly. I actually really like 'All hope is gone' the riffs are a fistful of steel. I've never really followed what they do but they do put out some catchy singles; wait and bleed, my plague, duality just to name a few.

The thing leaked.

Listened to it a couple of times already. I like it. Very diverse album by the way. Crushing guitar sound. Drumming is great (I'd have preferred a more natural drums sound though but it works well in the mix).

I'm very curious about the bonus dvd with the recording diary... i may end up buying it.

My flatmate told me it had leaked,.. but I think I can wait the few days till release..

Good to hear it's not a steaming pile of shit!!

IMO the drums sounds really natural on this new cd

Music is great, I've never really gotten into Slipknot (only had 3 songs from Voliminal on my iPod until now) but this is really good. Only listened through the album once so far, can't even name individual songs let alone the good bits yet ;p
Production is great, vocals and guitar sound wicked, bass I can't really hear but I was listening on earphones and I'm used to not hearing the bass in metal anyway. Drums sound superb, so glad for some louder cymbals compared to some releases from last year where you can't hear the cymbals even when the drums are solo'd. Snare has some wicked air to it, there was a slower song that had periodic snare hits with a rather sparse mix..my god it sounded amazing. The sampling sounds really out of place though, especially in some of the fills. There's no way that people can hit as hard as they normally do when they're playing 16th fills at 200bpm. Toms sound a bit strange too...too loud, or too far panned (how the hell is a tom panned further away than a hihat?). Ignoring these 'minor' details of immersion, sounds pretty damn good!

A lot of people knock him, but Joey is one hell of a drummer. Very consistent in the strength of his hits. The stuff on this album is obviously triggered, but a good portion of the sound is just the way he plays. I've always loved his fill style. Very rapid but precise.

I think you're mentioning the song "Gehenna" which is awesome. The verse has a very creepy vibe, with some kind of percussion hits that sound great (not the snare).

The chorus in this song is awesome, and the funny thing is it sounds a lot like QOTSA's "the lost art of keeping secret" chorus (on their "Rated R" album), which is a very "happy" song in comparison.

Listened to the album a couple of more times and i really like it.
