New Slipknot stuff..

slipknot is one of those bands i could listen to for a while and go "oh cool" and find a few parts catchy but after a short period i just need to stop. not sure what it is but i just feel like most of their stuff is caught between heavy and "accessible' (since that is the word of the moment) and for my tastes the balance doesn't sit right after a while. that being said they do have a few songs that are really good but the rest just never fully settled with me.

oh and i had thriller on tape... thriller. top that.

It was given to me by a cousin...I guess they thought it was a good gift. I don't remember ever actually listening to it, I just remember them giving it to me and I had to pretend to be thankful.

Which is why: gift cards/cash > all

Stupid relatives.

Nah dude, that's great you've got something like that - and especially since there's a story behind it... gives it more meaning (than the lyrics..).

I've got a few awesome tapes,.. Lost my tape album of The Cartoons (anyone remember them?).
Ah, being young ruled!

I still think their Self titled album at night in the dark is the most awesome of experiences..

I had it on tape, ftw!

this fails to impress me, then again i did have REIGN IN BLOOD on tape lol

Fuck you youngsters, I had all of that shit on Vinyl. :p

Listening to Reign in Blood on vinyl....in 1988....now That was an experience.

...and I'm also an old bastard.

lol, in 1988 I was 1 year old :P

Same here, but I have the vinyl collection of my girlfriends father and he said if I get all this stuff on cd in a good quality he's going to give me a few of those records, all in all 110, from classical recordings to allman brothers live at filmore east.

Oh and I have a faked copy of Sir Mix-A-Lot's "I Like Big Butts" on tape

BTT:
I like Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses the most, but I also dig Iowa, had some pretty brutal stuff going on. Never liked them when I was "young" (12-18, now I am 21). Got into heavy music due to friends of my brother, bought Hypocrisys Osculum Obscenum when I was 8 so I already knew bands like Suffocation and so on before I got to know Slipknot :D

whats all this "drums sound natural" talk about? compared to self titled and the following 2 (i don't own mate etc. and don't remember the sound) the drum sound on this is very triggered.

aside from that, i don't really like the drum sound, the snare sounds a little thin for me, as does the kick, low mids could have been pushed back up a touch.

all hope is gone sounds like a good track to me, the other one gets on my nerves.

I kinda agree on some of the stuff you said.
The drums sound is good, but i prefer the drums sound on the first two albums because :

-they sounded more organic
-i liked the snare/kd/ toms sounds more (i'm into high-pitch cracky in your face agressive snares more than vintage or "Sneap-ish" snares). It's more a matter of what drums were used than how they've been EQ-ed/processed in the mix.

I guess some people will reply the following : "Yeah but those drums in the new record sound good in the mix", but i'm a überpicky-bitch and i like "drums that sound good to me + sound good in the mix" :).

You know, despite all the insane media hype and Taylor/Crahan's ridiculous posturing, I really can't see what is so goddamn special about this album. It sounds like Slipknot with 50% added Stone Sour. There are plenty of bands doing the same thing just as well.

Just goes to show, you could persuade people to eat shit with the right marketing.

Just "acquiring" this at the minute.
I have a huge soft spot for Vol. 3, it was one of the first "metal" records I bought. (Come on, I was young!)
Listened to it, loved it. And it still stands up to my scrutiny nowadays.
Iowa doesn't do much for me, nor does a lot of the S/T (the more macabre parts of it are awesome though,) so I'm curious as to how this CD's turned out.
Psychosocial is a bit to Stone Sour for my tastes. All Hope Is Gone is pretty cool.

I shall report back with my opinion in a little while

i love how so many people have got the leaked version... I guess it's true that downloading is a major part of our society!

I'm still hanging out for release day, and I'll pick it up then.

[this post does not state that I've NEVER or WILL NEVER download, ... just stating that a lot of people are openly admitting to downloading a CD which is literally days away from general release.]

Day is nothing.
I haven't been checking torrent sites for this one frequently, but I was expecting this one to be banging about for at least a couple of weeks before release.

In other news. I quite like this release. But I haven't slept so my brain's mush, I'm not really taking it in. It's just going in one ear and out the other. But pretty cool though.

Well, do you know that music stores receive the cd a week before it's release, I bought the special edition to my friend working there 2 days ago, and we could hear part of the cd since last week on the nuclear blast website...

That being said, I wish there was more footage on the dvd, but the booklet is truly amazing..

yeah, I do know that - but you didn't download the CD illegally a week before... It just seems silly to download something which is due to come out a week later (It might have been more).
They released their last CD four years ago - so what's a week?

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just wondering what makes people download something so soon to the release date [especially when there can be unmastered versions leaked online which end up being very little like the released one].

Also, hearing a 90 second sample which has been 'released' legally through a record label is a little different to the "theft" of copyright material (as the RIAA would see it).

:)

Personally, I won't be buying it unless I go to see them live. Then I'll get it from the merch stand.
They'll get about £2 out of £10 for it, if that. Maybe a bit more since they've been around long enough to negotiate themselves a slightly better deal.
Personally, I have enough of a problem with a 4 piece getting £2 between them for every CD sale. It's not even enough for a pack of cigarettes. It's peanuts. How much is a 9 piece gonna get for every member for Christ's sake?

You could argue that it's stingy to not give them that £2, but I'd rather not contribute to how record labels currently do things. That's just me, and that's my excuse.

Considering I'm not buying it in stores, I consider this the release date.

TheXRatedDodo - Personally, I agree 100% with your sentiments.

I usually go to concerts and buy a shirt, which means that they're making nearly £30 from me every show. So, I do understand your opinion - however I like to wait for CD release day for bands I like to support.

:)

Good to see that people are supporting bands they like - rather than just ripping them off and enjoying it for free.

Aye. I usually buy a shirt too, as atonement for not buying their CD on release day haha.
And I used to be totally obsessive with buying band tee's aswell. I had about.. Uh.. 11 Tool shirts at one point.. Haha
I like to think I make up for it.
