It's more his other stuff that makes him so amazing - check out Terria or Synchestra with an open mind and I think you'd dig it.

And yessir, that's Gene pounding away.

The stuff Devin does, is not something most get a grip on the first go or two... his music always has to grow a bit.. and i think it's one of those bands you either get or not...

That being said, this is typical SYL! sounds like fun to me, Devin goes nuts again... track is short though, but solid... i dont think the new album or anything he does in the future will ever surpass "city"... oh how i hated that album when i first heard it...
too much noise, vocals suck, stupid titles, and what the hell is he singing about anyway? :)
how it grew to be my favorite disc ever, i cant remember, but it grew on me more and more... typical...

After i discovered his solo work... biomech, infinity, and terria are true masterpieces... sometimes so peacefull, sometimes so crowded with synths and laaaayers of vocals, and still it sounds amazing, but i think you need to just "get" Devin and his projects, or not...

Im glad i do though... can't wait for the new black!

Maybe "brilliant" is a stretch, but I think the idea of doing a metal album about how the metal scene is shitty fits their band perfectly. Being able to pull off an almost parody song but still have it rock this hard is impressive and there are a select few who can pull it off - especially this well. All in all, it just boils down to Devin's ability to consistantly put out great albums without faltering (20 albums in 10 years, if I remember correctly). He's also got one of the most awesome metal voices out there. I just think everything about that band works to perfection.

And Gene's drumming ability along with the rest of them being excellent musicians makes for awesome music regardless if you "get" the whole half-serious but totally devoted vibe they have.

I'm pretty big on SYL and Townsend. However I was a lot more fired up after hearing "Shitstorm" when they released it before Alien came out than I am for this track.

I dunno though, usually the best music takes a couple listens to realize their brilliance. Hopefully I'm missing something on this one.
