All over this. Will be preordering ASAP. The last three since Timo left have been joyful.

It's been a crazy week in power metal:

this, the new Rhapsody track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPk3wYHFTaM), the new Freedom Call track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beh5s-5kFPY), two new Helloween tracks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiYA27muaFg and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiYA27muaFg) and Cain's Offering rising from their slumber (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aixp4ENDtUc) AND a new Kamelot track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvUeqRwWorM) !!!!

They played 'Shine In The Dark' on a Finnish radio program today. It may still be on YouTube. I couldn't help myself and took a listen, although it was a very poor quality rip. Sounds like classic (or more accurately, 'current') Stratovarius, with a heavy helping of Cain's Offering. I'm willing to bet this is one of the three songs Jani helped write!

Speaking of which, I really wish Jani would just be made a member of Stratovarius - although I have no idea if the band has asked him to join, or if he even wants to in the first place. Whatever it is, Jani connects so perfectly with Stratovarius that we all win no matter what happens.

It's probably a case of Jani not wanting to go out touring. Also, don't forget that Jens Johansson is also in Cain's Offering. They're probably a bit funny about a band sharing too many members as it risks them sounding the same as each other (although having Lauri Porra and Matti Kupiainen around would probably ensure that doesn't happen).

Listen.

I really don't know if it's just fanboyism or objective shock. But Eternal is a fucking brilliant album from, in my opinion, the absolute masters of true power metal. I didn't think anything could top Nemesis. But this album is like Infinite made sweet love to Nemesis, and the result is Eternal's silky smooth musical beauty.

Everything about this album is amazing. From the production to the songwriting to the electronic, Halcyon Days-inspired musical effects in Man In The Mirror, Stratovarius hasn't sounded this strong ever.

All the songs are written perfectly for Timo Kotipelto's modern range and never push him too hard and yet they're all exquisite, unique and infectious to the bone. I can't get enough of these hooks. Even the verses are as sweet as molasses. Jens has a whole lot going on, Matias's riffs are great, you can hear Lauri's bass in the mix, and Rolf, holy shit, he is really letting loose on this one. Definitely a step up from Nemesis, and if I didn't know there was a lineup change, I'd swear that was Jorg Michael behind the skins. Rolf is a POWERFUL drummer and a tour de force in Stratovarius.

I'm truly amazed that, this far into their career, they're managing to put out music this strong, with no shortage of ideas. Truly robbed of recognition in the western hemisphere, no exaggeration in my opinion, Stratovarius are the fucking kings of power metal and Eternal is solid proof of that.

I've been giving this a LOT of spins lately but I still feel like I need more time with it before giving it a small write-up. Suffice to say I'm loving it, especially two songs in particular.
