New Tarja over on Brave Words..

Tarja will never touch the heights she reached with Nightwish. She's the Lebron James of operatic metal, planning on leaving...how dare she!

Did anyone see that cover Gwen Stefani, I mean Tarja did of 'Still of the Night'? It was terrible, I'd rather hear a choir of dying cats in a hail storm.

Just found the video for this on YouTube; normally I'd post a link to it, but frankly the amount of damage already done to the structural integrity of this place by the image of Geoff Tate in his skivvies could become catastrophic if the audio feed from this train wreck of a video were added.

This is so unbearably awful.

Better than the stuff on her last album, but nothing to exciting. You have to expect that that is the heaviest or best track on the album if that's what they're releasing for promo. That doesn't hold a lot of promise for the rest of the album IMO.

I like it. I liked the last album. However, Tarja should avoid covers. She should avoid them like the plague. I think her covers actually gave me the plague.

Agreed. I don't think her solo stuff is the greatest thing ever, but it's good for what it is. However, she has to be the worst musician at doing covers...PERIOD!!!

She found a bit more crunch on this one. The last album definitely had some highlights and I still enjoy listening to it, but this was a needed update to her solo career.

This is very much true. For the debut CD her label Universal Germany didn't take any risk but hired a producer and a bunch of half-assed but well known pop-rock composers to make songs for her. Tarja got only one of her own songs on that CD; "Chiaran's Well" which is the best track on "My winter Storm" CD. She wanted to have everything harder and heavier, but the label was too pussy and the producer mostly ruined the songs by making them softer and AOR-like to please more people.

Despite her debut CD was a success and sold about 650.000 units globally, which mede the label give Tarja free hands to compose and also produce her sophomore CD herself.
It is obvious that she is still experimenting and this may not be the best effort we will hear from her, but "What LIes Beneth" is definitely much stronger album than her first one. And one more thing: Live she and her band sound definitely better than on CD.
