I produced and engineered, CJ mixed. Hope you dig.

What an awesome mix! Details on snare and kick CJ. I could swear that theres a blend of DB snare in there somewhere. But yeah. Deetz on da drumz yo if you rock wit it lean wit it. (sorry, new ghetto neighbors getting the best of me) :)

Vocal sound REALLY throws me off...modulation going on or is it from tracking?
Sounds phasy to me tbh

Mix is cool but not my cup of tea...the lack of mids here is really offensive to my ears lol
But it works for the music, which is also cool btw!

And my original rough tracking mix which got leaked from a radio station and got flogged 7500 times in a couple days. Unfortunate but I guess it's cool to offer up a comparison to the non reamped tones etc.

Very phasy sounding on the cymbals... but i like the fact that it sound brutal and at the same time not too busy or muddy!

GAHHHHHHH, thanks so much guys!!

Slowly but surely learning the new control room.....so I'm happy to hear that people are digging on this!

First off, vox have a fair bit of 'movement' added to them if you will, as most of the vocals were dead center LEAD VOX.... i went through and seperated some L + R stuff put and Marshy did this as well I believe and did a great job on the vocals, I must say! i may have overdone the 'movement' effect on the vocals (FINE, it's basically modulation, haha) just a bit but I like how they came out....!

OH's weren't tracked with the greatest of mics so there was a huge battle to be fought with there, but honestly, they came out the best the possibly could have and I''m quite pleased with where I got them based on what I started with!

Kick/SNR, Peter, you're probably right in guessing there's a hint of a Daniel sample SOMEWHERE in there. As for the rest, can't remember exactly what I used to save my life as far as the SAMPLES are concerned, hahaha... I just keep adding and sculpting until I'm satisfied that I've got something unique and fitting for the song/band/whatever....

As far as the PROCESSING of the drum shells (Kick + SNR, specifically, here).... well... I've been experimenting with some different techniques and actually used quite a bit of "no no' IM GOING TO EAT YOUR TRANSIENTS ALIVE plug-in limiters (cough waves cough), hahahaha....

but towards the end of the mixing process, I still wasn't feeling the violence or the INTENSITY that I wanted to, and had an AH-HA moment! I whipped out a piece of gear that I used to use quite a bit in my mixes on individual shells in parallel, just really crushing them... and blending back in only slightly (we're talking an analogue hardware compressor now boys + girls) which is actually a really quite BLAND and clean sounding stereo compressor made by Drawmer.

it KILLS in parallel... so, the only change here was I used it as a parallel compressor on the ENTIRE drum buss as a whole (which is also different for me.... I usually HATE treating kick/snr/toms on the same buss...... don't know why, just never got on with it, but since I had done so many OTHER different things in this mix and already had a DRUM BUSS setup with processing blah blah, doing a lot of G/R itself via limiters, I figured, 'fuck it, let's try this whole smashed mess and let's toss it to the Drawmer set to STUN, essentially..., the only useful thing it does, hahahaha)....

to sum it up. lots of experimentation OVERALL with this mix and im glad it's being well received! Andy deserves it! His band KILLS!

The overheads I gave CJ weren't the greatest soz guys. Samson co2s and a rode nt2a in figure 8 in the centre on it's side. I think he did a great job considering the time constraints. The feedback has been great. Now if only he'll let us in on more secrets...
