I've gotten a few since the last time this thread was posted in.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality (Black 180 Gram)
Death - The Sound of Perseverance (Red/clear splatter)
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga (Black)
Vektor - Black Future (Blue/purple splatter)

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead and post my first vinyl purchase in a long, long time, Mystic Charm's Lost Empire EP. I had it sent to my rents back in the UK and they were cool enough to snap it for me... (didn't see the point in having it over here seeing as I don't have a turntable!)

Really good death/doom (with the deathy moments being reminiscent of Obituary). They released one full-length after this little EP called Shadows of the Unknown... check it out if you're into your old school death/doom!

I've picked up a few....

blink-182 - Buddha (Black)
blink-182 - They Came to Conquer.... Uranus! EP (White 7")
Evile - Five Serpent's Teeth (Cult Python Serpent Cobra Snake Orange  )
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2 : Scenes from a Memory ( Black, 180 gram)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (Black, 180 gram)

Bit of a technical question maybe.... I'm noticing that when I play the last two records listed above, they play slow. My copy of Black Sabbath's Master of Reality is the same way. All three are 180 gram. Is that the weight of the record itself? Does that weigh more than normal records? Would the weight be the reason they play slow on my record player?

180g it is the actual weight of the record, yeah. I think 'heavyweight" (180–220 g) vinyl is used for most modern releases, they apparently have a better sound than the older, lighter vinyl, due to them having a higher tolerance against deformation. Or something!

As for the speed issue, I'm not sure. Do you mean the tempo of the music is actually slow or just the rotational speed? Either way (as far as I know) the weight shouldn't make a difference. EDIT: As long as you're playing them on the right speed! (Most turntables you can change the speed, usually to 33 or 45 r.p.m.)

 Keenan, you bumbaclart!

If the music's playing slightly slower then you need to adjust the speed on your turntable! There should be a little button or switch or something on there??

it's likely a 45. all turntables have a function that switches them between 45 and 33 (33 is standard speed)

£32 all together but saved 20% because of the pre-2011 sale, so I got all three for £25! Well happy with that :)

Hey Keenan, I know this is a super old thread but you remember that question you asked (8 years ago?! haha) about some heavier records playing slower than others? ...well a couple of years back I had a similar problem and after doing a little research I discovered I needed to replace the rubber belt which drives the plate round. I guess over time they stretch or wear out or whatever...

A local used vinyl record shop has been posting videos and pics with the message if you see something you like send a message and he will ship or mail it. Wanting to support a local business I inquired into the price of a Death album, Leprosy, and it was way more than I wanted to spend. I asked if he had a list of other death or thrash records and he said he does not have an official list of his inventory. I guess he isn't desperate for business.

Sadly, I never use my record player these days.

Shame on you Keenan! ...though I must confess I'm typing this sat on my bed listening to something through my tablet via Spotify which I have on CD in the next room... so I totally relate. STILL! There IS still a time and a place for sitting down at your hi-fi and listening to a record the good old fashioned (and best, in my opinion) way.

I guess he isn't desperate for business.

Clearly not! As I guess he has a whole lot of time on his hands to do such a thing now...

Leprosy is a classic by the way, which I only own on CD. I think if I was to purchase another Death LP (after Scream Bloody Gore and Individual Thought Patterns, which I already own) it would be that. Or Human, just 'cause it's my favourite.

It was a sealed Death box set and he was asking $250. A little high in my opinion. I have bought some classic thrash from the store in the past, Onslaught, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Overkill.

I only know of 2 vinyl Death box sets, a live one and another containing (I think) all the albums bar Perseverance. And yeah, you're right. Quite a bit high!

Seeing this thread makes me realize that I never posted on here that I started collecting vinyl because it sounds great. Last thing I grabbed was the newest clipping. album and then next is the OST to Death Stranding which should be hear in the next week or two.
