Newb problems with my line6 pod xt pro

Im trying to use it as an effects right for now. Through my mesa boogie dual rectifier. I followed the directions for using the fx loop, and put it on series. The rest is confusing.
Oddly, when I hit the fx button for my mesa all it does is makes my amp quieter.

Sorta need alot of lame help with this one. Sorry.

Got it working. I wasnt using the friggin floorboard to switch the fx or something lame like that.
