Newbie, any pointers?

Hey man! I am also a little newbie so my advice may not be completely accurate (besides that I'm no good with the English language):

- First of all, I suggest you to read this guide and follow his footsteps. It's fucking good: http://www.systematicproductions.com/mixing-guide.htm

- The battery sounds too fake, there is much work to do there

- The bass guitar has paste well in the mix but I don´t like the sound itself , is excessively dirty, I miss more definition.

- The voice is out of the mix and should go through an autotune

- I like guitars (especially clean) but lacks some presence and crunch (what are you use? ampsims, pod?)

I really like your songs :kickass:

Funnily enough I just bought that book last week, plan to properly dig into it after this Friday and uni is out of the way. The battery, do you mean drums? Bass is a clean and dirty track so that should be simple enough to fix, an I agree on vocals, they have barely been touched really and need tidying up. It was actually our drummer that mixed those songs, but now he's away I'm going through the aforementioned mixing guide step by step and realising just how bad his mix was...

An I'm glad you like the songs, we're trying to go for something a little bit different. I plan to use this thread for all updates on the mixes, an we don't plan to release the EP until those that we intend the EP to be for (metalheads and critics alike) are happy with the production.

Our gear so far:

Kemper Profiling Amp
Superior Drummer 2.0
Roland Quad Capture
KRK RX8 monitors

I agree with the above comment, the clean guitars sound real nice. I like the distorted rhythm guitars too, I feel like they blend with the bass well and are pretty crisp sounding. I think for the leads (specifically the solo on the 2nd song) you could add some more reverb or delay to give it a more spacial feel. Personally, I'm not really a fan of the vocals, but I think they're mixed alright. Drums could definitely be more prominent; I think the snare could pack a little more punch. But everything sounds pretty good!

Some good points here, thanks. For the second song, was it the first or second solo that you think needs more delay/reverb? Also vocal wise, is it the performance or the style that isn't quite working for you? Drums are going to be looked at, all together it'l be a 4-track demo/EP so I'll get the other track up as soon as possible.

I have to agree with comments above and also to add this, you'll need to tight-up ,play everything again if needed and build sound from start if it doesn't 'glue' from start it will be much harder to mix after.Like the ideas and if you don't own any better drum vst here download these http://de-de.sennheiser.com/drummica it's free (use chorme to translate)

The first solo, the second solo had more reverb I think. Haha I'm just not a fan of the style, which is just my personal taste, nothing about how the track sounds/was recorded. What are you using for drums?

Okay, Slate Trigger purchased, last day of uni tomorrow so shall resist procrastinating....

Nah fuck it.
