Newbie to Metal

This is true. There's a whole "Chicago Crew" of ProgPower attendees. We're all pretty cool people. You'll like us if you meet us. :)

Are you going to the Helloween show in Joliet Monday? There will be a fair few of us there.

Hell, there's a TON of shows this month in the Chicago area where I've actually had to decline some shows just due to the volume of shows. I'm still pissed I missed Vicious Rumors.

Another solo female – traveled to PP for the first time in 2006 and haven’t missed a year since!

In addition to posting on the forum, one thing that really helped me to meet people is that we used to do some informal group lunches. It was a great way to meet fellow attendees, and you would end up seeing the same folks again and again throughout the fest. That tradition kind of fell by the wayside, but a few of us have talked about doing something informal next year, probably on Thursday, as the slate for Friday/Saturday is so jam-packed!

As the event gets closer, also check out the “Arrival Times” thread. If you can connect with someone who is on your flight, they can show you the ropes of catching the MARTA into Midtown. (Thanks to MetalSeamstress for helping me out on my first ride!) Also, wear an appropriately metal t-shirt on traveling day, so fellow attendees can spot you at the airport. ;)

P.S. Sounds like your taste is WAY on the heavy side, but since you are just starting out, I thought I’d put in a plug for a handful of my proggier favorites:

Circus Maximus – The First Chapter
Symphony X – Twilight on Olympus
Ayreon – The Human Equation
Shadow Gallery – Tyranny
Dream Theater – Images and Words

Compurocker, maybe I will finally meet you too, or at least finally have met you enough times to remember who you are :-) You are one of the posters I know is from this area, but to whom I can't put a face. Maybe I have before and it's just not sticking, in my old age.

Ken

I'm sort of anti-social and stay in my clique with my wife, Stephanie, and some friends like Joan and Al, and Samantha and Matt. I've got crazy curly hair and usually sport a ProgPower shirt. Like Simon (whom I haven't introduced myself to!) I need to get better about being social.

Kimberly was the first one my wife and I met at our first ProgPower, waiting outside Front Page News for one of these lunches. They are definitely a great way to meet some great people!

That is true, and I believe that's where Steve and I met you several years ago. Each year the schedule gets busier. I'd like to try it again if the schedule allows.

I have fond memories of both lunches! Front Page News was always great about accommodating the "Black Shirts". Thursday a little after the lunch rush (maybe 1:00 or 1:30) might be good. That way all the poor working stiffs in Midtown can enjoy lunch before we take over.

I think my wife has been to more shows than you this year!!

Hey, you give me crap for it all the time.

Don't dish it if ya can't take it!! ha!!! :)

anyhow, glad you came out last night.
I haven't seen you in a long time.

Not trying to defend anyone here, but dude you should be the last person complaining about people NOT going to shows.

Listen n00B - you are trying to speak on a friendly argument between Al, Joan, and myself that dates back to even before your Ozzfest days. Stay out.

I go to shows of bands I care to see.

Don't have the desire to go to every show on the planet just because the "Cool kids" are going...

HE SPEAKS TRUTH, JASON! :goggly:

really?
Shall we compare the list of shows I have attended in the past couple of years compared to you? I would seriously doubt you have attended more than I.

Anyhow, as I said, its all a friendly goofing on we have had between us for years.

Simon is in his "raging metalhead" phase now that his girlfriend dumped him for a second time so he is making up for all the stuff he had to miss last year.

I'm late to the discussion, but this was our first PP and being new to the forum, yet we still made some new friends and had a good time with the people around us throughout the 3 days.

Jason take it easy dude. I'm just joking, my God. It's just funny when you call people out on stuff you do. You know I completely understand why you don't go to shows; I'm not judging you for it, just saying...

Earlier you were talking about people need to be able to take it. You're showing it right now that you can't.

FYI, me going to more shows now has nothing to do with me not dating; it has more to do with there being more worthwhile shows.

Of course man, as am I!!!
It's all in good fun.

You started it. Read above :)

Speaking of shows, enjoy RAVEN.
Would love to see them, but no way after last night I wanna be out extremely late!

I'm done arguing with you. You're taking stuff way too personal. That was not a personal jab I had.

If I had a regular schedule, I probably would not be going tonight.
