'Cannonball' driver burned across US in 31 hours
November 17, 2007 - 11:50AM

Extreme sports fan Alex Roy says he has smashed the record for the fastest "Cannonball run" across the United States, defying police and speed traps.

Alex Roy, 35, who waited a year to boast about his exploits and remains vague about the exact dates in a bid to avoid any prosecution, said he had blistered across 13 states in 31 hours and four minutes, breaking the old record by more than an hour.

Car enthusiast and rally driver Roy travelled the 4,496 kilometres from New York on the east coast to Santa Monica, California on the west coast at an average 145km/h.

At times though he reached top speeds of 257km/h, breaking the previous record set in 1983 of 32 hours and 17 minutes.

The American driver of German origin set the record at the wheel of his blue BMW stamped with "Team Polizei" and travelled with a cameraman to document the event.

He also equipped his car with several GPS units, police scanners and radar detectors in a bid to avoid any speed traps.

"The GPS really is not that useful because there is only four tolls and maybe four turns between New York and LA. This is purely to calculate our speed and time," he told a television reporter.

He added that normally he's a very careful driver who has only been given one speeding ticket in the past five years.

Yeah, you know there is a statute of limitation that hasn't expired yet... he is stupid for admitting that, they're gonna arrest him now. His claim can be considered evidence I believe.

sure its dangerous, but awsome still yet.

and im sure we all drive at high speeds anyway....i know i do.
although, i have never driven that far at those speeds. I drove from from Detroit to to Ky, at 120 mphPLUS one time. Went to detroit at the speed limit, took 8 hours, got back in less than 5.

man....here in australia, they blast me down the country highways, when i used to have a muscle car in y younger yrs

a 65 fastback? Are you sure.....i may be wrong, but i think the fast back was first intro'd on the 66.????? And the 428 was in the ford grand torrino fastback, but the engine could have been installed in the mustang, all you would need would be an adaptor on the transmission so the motor would match up. But anyway, yeah , mustangs are awsome...the old ones at least....the 70's was terrible on the the little wild horse.

The biggest mustang engine at that time was a 350 shelby (i think) otherwise the tangs of the 60's came out factory with 289 on the v8's, then you had the 6cyl...most ppl think chevy is the only 350.

DARK NOISE>>your sis must really dig the suv thing then hahah
each to their own.
