If it were one of these options, what should Opeth's next album be like?

I don't so much mind one-song-albums as I mind one-track-albums. There's a difference there. Albums that consist of one single track are just inconvenient. And to be honest I agree with the person who said that one song albums tend to be either repetitive or when they aren't, they might as well not have been a one song album because that means the music progresses enough that it could have easily been split up into individual songs.

Someone mentioned Crimson by Edge of Sanity, which is indeed a great album, but come on, that has lots of repetition in it. It's maybe 15 minutes of material that is repeated a few times with different lyrics. I'd rather see Opeth come up with an album that is a little more diverse than that. I'm all for albums that flow together as one continuous piece of music, but with track markers inbetween so you can atleast skip around in it or just listen to one specific track if you want to.

I feel when you have longer songs you strive harder to make it all fit properly as a whole, the progression is a lot more difficult (if you know what your doing when writing) so it would be more challenging but I do believe the outcome would be euphoric if done correctly.

Cheers Tubbs I thought it was too...Demilich I understand your point but I am having few (getting in the christmas spirit) :loco:

I think they should release an EP in the vein of Meshuggah's 'I' (perhaps as a transition towards the next full-length) and get back to some serious riffage!

how about mike busting out, growl singing...as in growling on tune...his growl gets better with every album...and he does kind of does it on baying of the hounds..."and roaming the forest"....on the word forest he makes an abrupt pitch change...he goes down roughly a minor third (might be a couple microtones off) from "for" to "est"....i love the way he does it!!! he sounds like an innocent monster. anyway...i think it would be cool if he did more of that stuff.

Then again, the majority of people here disagree. My second choice would have been 2 or 3 20+ minute songs. I really like big songs! Don't know why.
Mmm, I must agree with you. I'd like to see less vocals as well, it'd give back that Opethian atmosphere of tr00kvltkrieggrimnez.
