NGD Grossmann SG-Box (Iso Cab) Engl vs Mesa Metal

Sounding good man, maybe the speakers need to break up a little like you said to get even better. How much $ ?

Thanks. Yeah, it's all brandnew. I didn't use the suggested eq setting to compensate the closed lid and dialed it in that way to leave some room, space, whatever for the bass. I can practice with headphones now and record silent.
1000 times (ok, that's unrealistic :)) better than all those modelling stuff, at least for me. It was 950 $ (758 €) with the quick change option, the vintage 30,an Emminence bass speaker(which isn't here yet) and the possibility to use two mics at once. Compared to the Randall (500 €/628 $) it's a good deal, i think. It's no 4x12 in an optimized studio room, but it's as close as it can get. The Rivera Silent Sister is 1139 € over here -that's 1432 Bucks... Oh, and i checked out the two notes torpedo as well. Digital stays digital, no matter what they say....

Question, in the video the microphone is way too close to the speaker, is that how you used it for the audio that is playing?

Jap. Why should it be too close? I checked the "normal" (whatever that is) distance first and it was kind of "boomy", or "boxy" sounding. In this case you need to eq to compensate. Anyway, i have this thing since thursday and all time in the world to experiment with the mic position. Right now, the position in the vid seems "right" to me.

Interesting. Well, even you said yourself "I checked the 'normal' distance," so you know what I am talking about. It seems too close based on the common practice of placing the mic right up on the grill cloth, or an inch or so back sometimes. Since the grill cloth is an inch or so away from the speaker itself in most cabinets, that's why I think the position in the video is too close. The again, it's an iso cabinet so surely some things work differently, just surprised at the position is all. Regardless of that (or maybe because of it?), I wasn't keen on how it sounded in general, but so far I haven't heard an iso cabinet clip from anyone that I liked anyway so nothing new.

What about the cabinets where you can take of the grill gloth, to get nearer to the speaker with the mic? The grill gloth itself has an impact on the sound, too. Anyway, i moved it more off center, but kept the distance and i have a more balanced sound right now. What do you use for recording?

I have usually seen that with the mic still within the same distance as usual, with the reason behind taking the cloth off being that it dampens highs a tad - which it does. Never heard of anyone doing it so they can put the mic closer, though I'm sure some have.

What do you use for recording?

What exactly do you mean? What amps/cabs have I used? What mics?

Whatever works! I'm with 006 in that I've never seen a mic placed inside the cone before. Does the mount on that isocab allow for lateral movement? It seems somewhat limited for placement.

Yes.

You can reach any point from the cone + it stays in place.

Ok. What do you use at the moment? Any recordings with the Randall Iso Cab?

I don't own any guitar amps or cabs any more, I outsource all my reamping to lolzgreg or I use what the client has if it's good. What I listed are things that I have owned or used in the past.
