no more raves

Geez they should just call it the "No Fun Act". I guess if it passes all the Ravers have to do is have live acts perform all night, as the bill only pertains to having "pre-recorded" music for over 3 1/2 hours. Still super lame though.

If you actually read this part of the bill:

(a) Any person who conducts a public event at night that
includes prerecorded music and lasts more than three and one-half
hours
is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of ten thousand
dollars ($10,000) or twice the actual or estimated gross receipts
for the event, whichever is greater.

That would also means no nightclubs or other DJ activities. BUT, when you read further

Subdivision (a) shall not apply to a public event on private
property if the entity that conducts the public event has a business
license to operate a bar, club, theater, entertainment venue, or
other similar business, or to conduct sporting events, and conducting
the public event is consistent with the business license.

What this means that it's only preventing unlicensed events, which is already illegal?

I honestly didn't even know they still had raves, they are pretty non-existent in Ohio

Atleast in Finland the clubbing scene is still in good shape, they even have their own central website, www.klubitus.org

they mean that any such event that isn't held in a business whose license directly deals with such activities will be banned

as of now, anyone can rent a space for day/weekend/whatever and throw a big party in there. with passage of this bill, it will only be legal to do in clubs/bars/etc.

personally i think it's a fucking waste of a bill...you'd think that with their massive budget deficit, the CA state assembly would have more pressing needs to spend their time on. if they were smart, they'd let raves keep going on, and tax the fuck out of glowsticks and pacifiers...

The only problem I am seeing with the bill at this state is that it makes no mention of private events on private property, which the banning of that would have me extremely pissed. Other than that, they really should be cracking down on illegal raves for numerous reasons including lack of security and selectivity of the people that can go in which results in the weird fucks that poke people with needles infected with aids and all other sorts of shit which gives raves a bad name.

Who's bright idea was this? Next thing you know, there'll be an anti-contact (no mosh, must remain arms length at all time, hands above the waist, big brother's watching, all that bull shit) bill in clubs and venues of the sort. Personally, I think they'd be fine with some kind of noise permit thing. You know its some older group claiming it disturbs the peace or some crap.

Raves are still huge out here. Weird shit goes down; super secret forest raves, and I wish I were joking about that. You hear of it like 3-4 hours before it happens and then you travel out to some sketchy ass forest and people go nuts.

Not surprised they're trying to crack down on it - there are a ton more deaths/hospitalizations as a result of the unlicensed, secret-forest rave type parties than there are from things like EDC or other night-club style events.
