Noctiferia - Per Aspera

Gothic Death Metal from Slovenia, 'Per Aspera' has Noctiferia demonstrating an intricate blend of progressive and extreme influences, with smooth gothic overtones. I'm usually tired of Death Metal releases after the intro, but Noctiferia grabbed my attention by not trying to bash my brains in with the first full-length track (they saved that for the third track, 'Fond Of Lies'). Instead, they present a layered mix of bluesy solos, extreme vocals, and intricate rythym work throughout this 9 track album. Noctiferia have the added benefit of actually being able to play outside of the constraining DM genre, and allowed themselves to stretch musically, while maintaining a ferocity that complements the melodic pieces embedded throughout their music.
