Norma Jean - Redeemer

Hatebreeder

Pizzicato Heartstrings
The first thing that stood out to me from this album was the vocals. What happened to Cory's deep screams like those of "O God: The Aftermath"? Now he's reverted to a typical, generic, whiny shriek common in many bands of the "Christcore" label. Not only that, everything other element of the band has become severely static and unimaginative. Not that Norma Jean were ever bursting with musical creativity, but their chaotic hardcore sound was relatively enjoyable. Now they've outlived their usefulness.

4/10

I had to vent this somewhere.

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything you've said there Hatebreeder. This album is a large step down from O'God. And I really hate they've started including gay melodic parts, their lack of cheese was the thing I loved about them the most and what set them apart from most metalcore bands IMO.

I have never liked Norma Jean all that well before. Even in there previous albums they seemed like a norma Christcore metal band, not that I dont like some of them, in my opinion As I Lay Dying and Becoming The Archetype are great bands that are both Christcore. But Norma Jean never really got me interested. For me it swims in a sea of medicore metalcore bands that release one album after another of the same song.

As much as Redeemer didn't blow me away, I'm still going to see them with bells on in 3 weeks. Apparently they go spastic live.

i agree with most of you guys.O god the aftermath was pretty awsesome.bless the martyr, kiss the child(not bless the child kiss the martyr) is aslo very good, i cant realy decide whitch i like better. there best quality as someone else pointed out would have to be there completely chaotic elements and crazy awesome vocals.

Ok so I went and saw them. They were pretty terrible really. They only played for 40 mins and only played 2 songs off O'God the Aftermath and 1 song off Bless the Martyr and Kiss The Child. All the rest were off Redeemer and I couldn't get into the newer material at all. They were sloppy as hell as well. They jumped around and tried their hardest to convince everyone, but it just wasn't happening. I was so looking forward to seeing them after the amount of love I have had and still have for O 'God.... anyway 2 thumbs down. And I won't even go into what I thought of Every Time I Die..... :erk:
