Strong year---
1. Laster - Ons vrije fatum
So good--they have evolved so much from that 2012 demo which was all the rage back then. Dynamic, melancholic, dat bass etc. etc. I know
it came out in Janurary-but this is awesome.
2. Yellow Eyes - Immersion Trench Reverie
This band just keeps getting better--while always having a dissonant/technically/noisy sound--they have upped the atmosphere and the riffs
3. Entheos - Le Zahir
Technical yet melodic black metal with a great sense of dynamics--
4. Enhahre - The Marrow
Following their album last year, experimental yet still retaining crushing doomy harrowing parts with some beauty dripping through-condensed into the four tracks as well.
5. The Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia
6. Turia - Dede Kondre
(Dutch scene going strong here)
7. Falls of Rauros - Vigilance Perennial
Really strong effort here--mixing a lot more clean vocals--like the Laster, coming out in Jan. might have gotten this overlooked
8. Malokarpatan - Nordkarpatenland
9. The Great Old Ones - EOD- A Tale of Dark Legacy
10. Fleurety - The White Death
Non-Metal
Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me
Devastating stuff here--Since Dawn, I wanted Phil to come back to the acoustic folk stuff-but certainly not like this. Seeing it live was quite the experience..the new tracks he played were also excellent--following the same themes
Ben Frost - The Centre Cannot Hold
Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Caesar
Roel Funkchin - Balaklavskiy prospex
Chris Randall - Oscillator Breach
Albums I discovered late in the year:
Eye of Nix (Sludgey doom with female vox. Fans of SubRosa take note)
Time Lurker (This completely got past me in June--French bm-good.)
Jordablod - Upon My Cremation Pyre
Adrift for Days - A Sleepless Grey (neurosisey post rockish dynamics--with some acid bath mixed in? fuckin win)
