Note length makes a difference?

Ok, call me crazy but I think that changing the length of the midi notes in piano roll actually improves the sound of Addictive Drums. Normally I'll be punching in my drum beat in piano roll using the same note value (a 16th note or what ever), but I think that extending the note to its full value actually makes the hits sound more authentic? the transition from note to note almost sounds smoother... I think?!
Is there any truth to my observation here, or am I nuts? So the first set of kicks wont sound as smooth as the second set:

All the MIDI is doing is triggering a sample to be played.

If you really think there's a difference then take a sample triggered from the short midi note and a sample triggered from the long midi note. Line them up to start on the same beat and then phase invert one. If it results in silence (total cancellation) then they're the same.
