Unfortunately it's just a report suggestion. But hey the Senate is doing it's own report, that might be better for legalising it. Let's hope so!!!!:Smokin::Smokedev:

The Senate in Canada is archaic and useless. They are basically friends of the current Prime Minister who are appointed for life. They have no role in law-making, other than to reject a bill that has already been passed by the elected parliment, which never happens. So basically, they show up once or twice a year and collect a massive paycheck.

Now if you had an intense job like that, wouldn't you spend most of your time stoned, too?

That's the most information on Canadian government that I've ever heard.

Down here, all they teach us is that all Canadians play hockey, and live in igloos. The same Prime Minister for life? Sounds like the Pope...

And yes, I would light up very often.

Sorry to confuse you, the Prime Minister is elected, but he is the one that appoints Senators. The Senators then basically have the job for life, or until they retire. But when you don't actually have to do anything and collect a hefty salary, why bother retiring?

It may only seem like we have a Prime Minister for life right now. The PM is the leader of the party that wins the most seats in Parliment. Over the past ten years, the right wing parties have split into more regional interest parties and have the divided the vote, allowing Jean Chretien's Liberal party to have no real national competition, so they'll stay in power until they do something really stupid to piss off the voters. So Chretien will still be the PM at the age of 70 (which is only a couple years away anyway).

Alright, enough politics lessons...the most important point is that Canada could be on it's way to the most liberal pot laws in the world!!!

Wow.

I feel so...informed...

I can see where everyone down here would freak out because of you guys getting it legalized, but I never saw the problelm with legalizing it here either.

Really,

Any weed would be good right now

I'm still being clean, and yes, my job still hasn't drug tested me yet

But oh well, at least I'm clean and can't get fired now

That was pretty interesting about the Canadian government.
If a new Prime Minister is elected do the previous Senators get the boot too? If not how does the new PM get to pick his own Senators? Do the cantidates get campaine contrubitions? If so whats to stop him from appointing someone Senator only because he gave him a big bag of cheddar?

The Senators stay until they retire or die. At that time, the PM chooses new ones to replace them, meaning that the Senators tend to be a mix from many administrations. The Senate in Canada has no real power or law-making ability anyway. It really only exists as a check on the Parliment (where all the elected representatives and the PM sit), so the Senate acts as the last stop before a bill becomes law. But you somewhat right about the bag of cheddar comment...it's largely patronage appointments...long-time buddies or contributors to the current PM. Some of the provinces have tried to make a move to have Senators elected, but this has been resisted by the larger provinces (who have more seats).

Geez, this is becoming the "Learn about Canada" thread.

Hey, it's not our fault they don't teach us anything!!!

You'd think they'd want us to know how border countries work, but hey, they don't teach us shit about our own country either. At least they didn't when I was in school, and yes I DID pay attention in social studies. :p

There had been plans to make a sequel "Home Brew" recently, but no studio would front the estimated $5 million production cost, fearing the market would be too limited to make the money back. Pretty ridiculous IMO considering even the Powerpuff Girls movie had a $10 million budget...hell, "Home Brew" would make it's money back in Canada alone even if noone in the States went to see it. Too bad, Cincy, you could have caught up on the past 20 years of Canadian history (ie. we've drank more beer  )
