o/t michale graves of the misfits black listed

Jono

Hail Satan!
I read in AP magazine that he is blacklisted from certain clubs because he is conservative and is a Bush supporter. He didn't say in the interview if these were dominantly punk clubs but i'm assuming they are because anti government and punk tend to go hand in hand. But thats fucking stupid he's not a raving right wing extremist or anything he's just got some views that are in common with what the Bush administration claims they stand for. VEry funny to see a conservative black listed though. but still bullshit.

I think he is banned from certain clubs because

1)he is a jerk at times, and is very unprofessional
2)his band cant draw a crowd of more than 50
3)he is living off the success of Jerry Only who is living of the name of a once great and classic band called the Misfits, a band that IMO only existed when Glenn Danzig was the singer.

Thats utter bullshit. Who the fuck says you got to drink Kerry or Clinton cum to be allowed to play in a club. I respect Mr. Graves because he is willing to buck the trend and state his conservative opinion's like mine. I know there are more conservatives out there....unfortunatly it is way to easy to jump on the band wagon and ride down the street than it is to get off and voice your opinion.
You should support the music you like regardless of there political opinion. I have been to way too many liberal based festivals and seen way more "Not My President" t-shirts than I can stomach but i still support the band for their music not their assanine childish views

1) We can all be jerks at any given time under certain circumstances, and nor is the man unprofessional. If you would have ever met him or read anything he has had to say you would not make such ridiculous claims.

2) He can and does draw a crowd often time more than 50 people. There are places in the world where not everyone has heard of his recent project. Just like there are times Anthrax do not draw a large crowd, so is the acse with Graves and every other artist out there who is not a mainstream media darling.

3) Graves is NOT trying to live off of any success he may have obtained during his tenure in the Misfits. If you knew anything about his current output you would see he is NOT advertising the band with references to past Misfit participation. Individual promoters will do this as well as fans of the new music to try and draw in possibly more potential fans. The only person trying to ride the Misfits coattails into obscurity is Jerry Only with that watered down version he calls M25. Jerry's own brother Doyle doesn't want to have anything to do with Jerry or the MIsfits any longer.

In summation, please don't make asinine statements without being properly informed. Additionally Graves does NOT directly support Bush per se but is against voting the man out for no other reason than what hear-say is spread about him. If you want to vote for a particular candidate then do the leg work and find out about who is right for you for your own reasons and not because someone says this about so and so, blah blah blah.

Ok Braniac, first off, I have not only met Mike, I worked for a band that had the Misfits(graves era) touring with them as guests. Here is why he is unprofessional.

a) failure to notify management of his criminal record hence a very long unnecessary detainment at the Canadian border, with Mike being refused entry, therefor screwing over all the Canadian fans b) he at many times had a rock star attitude, and mind you this was not all the time, treated roadies, club personelle like shit c) the simple fact that he walked off stage (and yes so did Doyle but this is about Mike) is the most bullshit unprofessional thing a musician can do. Swallow what ever bullshit pride you have and finish the show.

b) as far as drawing a crowd, there are certain places who have never heard of him, these places are basically ANYTOWN USA. How many shows have been cancelled, or moved to a smaller venue because of poor ticket sales. His recent album does not even show up on soundscan.

c)Yes he is living of the remains of the Misfits (just like Jerry Only is). If it wasnt for Jerry, Mike would still be cutting grass at some Jersey golf course. 1/4 of his set is songs from Famous Monsters, and American Psyco.

So I do know what I am talking about. Go back to the Gotham Road board, or the Web of Dharma or whatever band mike is in this week and spout your crap there.

1) The border thing can be seen as either a lack of foresight, just plain stupidity on Graves' part or overzealous border patrol/customs.
Regardless of what happened i wasn't there and don't agree with the use of drugs for myself but if that's what one chooses to do
then it's their life. He should have known that something like that could have come up but apparently didn't think it was important enough
to bring up. After all there are plenty of bands that go back and forth over the border who have some sort of criminal record.
a) Rockstar attitude does not necissarily mean you are unprofessional. It could be that the man was having a bad day(s) or what have you.
When i have a bad day people don't say i'm 'unprofessional' or have a 'rockstar' attitude. I just have a bad day and state as much.
b) If i'm not mistaken there was a very good reason that he walked (which had something to do with Jerry) but i agree if you start a show
then you may as well finish it to the best of your ability.
2) They are on tour now, and i saw them last year. I'm not aware of any intentional show cancellations or of any at all in fact
so i don't know where you're trying to go with that. and like you said a lot of people have not heard of him so a small turn out
is not unexpected in some places along with the fact that this new band is still fairly new. Also the reason why his album doesn't
show up on soundscan is because it was self released, self financed and NOT sold in any major record stores thereby nullifying
any numbers that could be generated by soundscan.
3) Again if he were trying to live off the misfits name he would be advertising the product his current band produces under something like
"Former Misfits singer Michale Graves new band, blah blah blah" which he does not do. Certainly he plays Misfits songs in the set list
since that is what the fans want to hear. The songs he performs live are the ones that he wrote so i see no foul there in any case.
It's just like when Rob Halford left Priest and did his own thing. The man still played Priest songs in his live set. big deal.
Yes you know what you're talking about to an EXTENT but it seems to me you have something personal against the guy and are content
to dwell on matters that took place YEARS ago rather than trying to give Graves at least some credit. As you shoudl know by now
the whole Graves/Only escapade was reason enough to put any one in a bitter state of mind and something you just can't separate
work/play from personal matters. You wanna bash? go ahead,
but you really need to make use of the internet as a tool for learning and stop condemning some guy just because you didn't like
it that he replaced Glenn as the frontman. Take care and good luck with your condition.

To return to the original: It´s very, very weird not to let anyone in the club just because his political opinion. Fuck it.
I love Jerry Only, gave me his Misfits T-shirt when they were in Prague! (with Graves)

I saw Michale Graves at Sudsy Malones in Clifton (Cincinnati) ohio on Sunday night. Probably one of the finest small venue shows I have ever seen...period. Michale played before a crowd of about 30-40 peaople and put on a show as if he was playing in front of 1000...true showmanship. The mosh...yes belive it or not, there was a mosh pit... was quite crazy and Michale was cool as hell before and after the show. Whether you like his politics or not, he is a true professional. His band was tight and he sounded great. If you like the Graves era Misfits or Graves as a band or are just merely curious, it is the best $8.00 concert around... and I have spent ten times amount at shows and not had near as much fun....Check him out if you get a chance.
