Official All-Star Jam Set Discussion

I thought that the allstar jam set was disorganized and not what I was expecting. This was my first show but I did not like it at all. Way too long and I didnt know half the songs they were playing. I enjoyed the bands during weekend but I could have lived without seeing the allstar jam.

we could have lived without your complaint :(

dude honestly what were you expecting? every singer to find time between the announcement of the all star jam and the show to rehearse songs with pagans mind?

oh wait, maybe you wanted every band to come out and do their songs individually resulting in a sound check every 2 songs.

dude lighten up! the all star jam was free, no one forced you ya know? the all star jam was pretty damn amazing for not being rehearsed! give the guys some credit ya know?

A German friend of mine flew over for ProgPower this year, and both of us had a blast (I've attended since ProgPower III).

We thought the all-star jam was tons of fun. I absolutely disagree that it was too long. Perhaps there were some younger fans that didn't know that many songs, but they were all familiar to me (being an old bastard at 38)!

Highlights for me were King Diamond, the cool Gary Moore/Phil Lynott tune "Out in the Fields", Alone, and Take Hold of the Flame. The jam was a fantastic way to end the festival...wonder what cool idea Glenn has for next year? Riverside is enough to get me pumped.

I thought that was a tasteless act because of teh fact that Lance King's kids were in the croud.

No more tasteless than what many of our fellow PP attendees were wearing throughout the fest. I may view someone's fashion statements are silly or ridiculous, but never offensive. Lets get real here people. It's not like this was a middle school talent show with tons of kids. There were a few younger kids at the fest, and I'm sure they didn't see anything worse than MANY of the displays exhibited by other patrons, i.e. scantily-clad woefully underdressed men/women, language, overtly sexual behavior in the little couch/booth areas in the lobby, etc.

some chick was grinding on this dude up front during the all star jam, i didnt really care, but couldnt help but laugh when some other huge dude came up and also started grabbing on her tits while she was grinding on the other dude. it was fucked up!

The highlight for me was Ray Alder's amazing performance of The Real Thing. Man they made that song dark and moody and evil.

Bingo! I loved every song, but The Real Thing was the highlight. Faith No More deserves more recognition, I think. I was running on fumes until Ray kicked my ass with that song.

Floor/Ralf duet had me choked up big time.

Personally, I have no use for AC/DC, Kiss, or a few other bands covered. BUT, that made no difference at all, as I found myself really being able to get into those songs last night. Allstar Jam was a complete success, in every conceivable way.

Bottom line, Glenn gave us all something that will never be recreated anywhere else. If that doesn't occur to a few of you naysayers, then you need to reevaluate your ideas of what PP means.

Jam was a lot of fun. Loved some songs and thought others were hilarious.

The stripper incident with Damian Wilson was *totally* unnecessary.

yeah, isnt this the same show where you have many of the ladies in coresets? from pictures from past fest....some of those people shouldnt be wearing those anywhere. What is the difference of a woman wearing something that is practically pushing her breast out and a girl who has paint covering her breast? Like Rocky Racoon said....this isnt a middle school show. Sure you want it clean and not sleazy but it isnt like there was double penatration going on or something like that.

How can anyone complain about the All-Star Jam??? It was a one time thing you got to see that can never be redone. you should all be happy. if you didnt want to see it, you could leave. I think people forget how to have fun
at shows.

Hmm...I think the "stripper incident" was unnecessary and pretty tasteless. However, I will go against the popular opinion of the board here and say that it was very appropriate to the song and made if from a blah moment to an entertaining one. I won't disagree that it is offensive though...especially since Lance had just brought his fam into the seats behind me and had to rush them out when that started. Some of the guys from Threshold were sitting by me too and they looked absolutely mortified.

As far as things I'd like to see not happen again, there is only once response I can give to that question: Ray.
Seeing one of my favorite songs of all time badly butchered when the singers got to pick their songs in the first place...That was a big sore point for me for the night.

Hey, I had to leave...did Jon Olivia come out last night? What songs and did he just sing? Any one have some pics of it?
Oliva wasn't there. I believe he left for Europe on Thursday AM.

Eh, didn't really care for the set list of the All Star Jam. My favorites were FK doing Back in Black and Floor singing "Alone." She is amazing! Great song choice.

This was sooo much fun! I can't believe all the stuff they dug out of the metal archives.... "Balls to the Wall"! Hahah nice! As always the FK guys made me laugh. I knew Kris was joking when he said he couldn't sing. Not an AC/DC fan, but with FK doing it.... I'm there baby!

Personal highlights... Of course, Floor gave me chills. I'm very surprised she picked Alone. I would have expected Barracuda. Still, a nice choice that showcased her talent. The Queen cover gave new meaning to atmosphere. Nicely done as a duet. Ray may have screwed up some lyrics but he lended so much emotion I got chills. That's just a testament to his talent.

I walked into this PP expecting little since there was no band that I completely loved playing (excepting FK). I walked out feeling this was the best PP ever!

Damian been a naughty boy again? Hahaha. You weren't watching the show in freakin' Walmart. With a voice like that, Damian can do whatever the hell he likes.

Perhaps PPUSA 2008 should be held at Disneyland?

No doubt. People complain about the offensiveness of his actions, yet they are fine with alcohol consumption and profanity. I know it's not the image ProgPower is looking for, but this backlash seems a bit misplaced.

I really didn't like the all-star jam as much as I thought I would. Some of the songs were obscure enough that I didn't know them at all. Is there a setlist of what was played?

A lot has been discussed about the "painted lady" incident. I know Glenn didn't have prior knowledge about it. I wasn't offended, but it was indeed tasteless. :Puke: It doesn't belong at a metal show. Nuff said.

Alright, I'm adding my thoughts on the exotic dancer:

I have been known to frequent strip clubs. The woman's body does not bother me at all.

-HOWEVER-

ProgPower is an ALL AGES show. There is no need for anyone under the "legal" age to see that. I'm glad the person with the young child talked about it with their child. Kudos to you for that.

I did think that the paint was an awesome thing and to have her come out, even naked was fine and I loved it. I, yes, MetalRose, became totally offended when she started shaking her ass, at that point, she was no longer an artist, but a stripper.

There is a way to be painted like that, dance with him seductively and still keep it well with in the all age limits of ProgPower. There is a part of me that hopes and thinks that perhaps Damian didn't think she was going to take it to that extreme, and after all the controversy- well... Whatever.

If it was an 18+ show, I'd be all for it. Wouldn't bother me at all, but there were a few YOUNG kids in the crowd.

And to be fair, the girl couldn't even WALK in her shoes what else could she do but sit there and shake her ass?

I did talk with quite a few guys who thought it was in somewhat bad taste as well because of the all age status of the show.

Do I dislike Damian or Threshold now? No, not at all. Lapse of judgement happens, and even though I didn't like what happened, who's going to forget the performance??

Over and out on this topic.
