Biography on Helstar:

HELSTAR were founded in 1981 in Houston, Texas. The band started with high goals, but who could forsee that shortly after HELSTAR should build a legacy and a reputation as one of the most technically skilled and intense U.S. power metal outfits. With a singer like James Rivera (who was later also part of Vicious Rumors, Seven Witches and Destiny's End) the band found a charismatic frontman with a unique voice. But also the razor-sharp, powerful riffs and guitar licks of Barragan and Trevino, combined with the enormous technical skills that the whole band displayed, became one of the main trademarks of HELSTAR.

After this, the band released albums like "Burning Star", "Distant Thunder" and "Nosferatu" - all considered as classics of their genre today. HELSTAR toured with W.A.S.P., Megadeth, Keel, Savatage, Fates Warning and Yngwie Malmsteen. After a 5-years break the band returned in 1995 with a new album, entitled "Multiples In Black", that was produced by Megadeth's Dave Ellefson. In 2000 Metal Blade Records released a live bootleg called "Twas the Night of a Helish XmasÓ. James assembled a reunion lineup with Jerry and Russell and some guest musicians to perform at the Bang Your Head festival (2001) in Europe. Following this, the band embarks on a US tour beginning with the Milwaukee Metal fest and ending at the Powermad festival, held in Baltimore, MD. In 2004 James headlines the Keep It True festival in Germany as HELSTAR. Selected appearances in Greece, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands follow.

Then, in 2006 James, Larry, Jerry, and Rob reform with Russell to bring the nucleus of this classic line-up back together. 2007 saw HELSTAR rise from the ashes with a collection of re-recorded classics ("Sins Of The Past"), that were enhanced with 2 brand new songs. Fans again remembered and praised the glorious days when HELSTAR lead the U.S. metal scene, along with bands like Metallica, Slayer, Flotsam & Jetsam and Megadeth.

But now one of the most talented, but at times underestimated cult bands is finally back with a new studio album! ! This is the album the Metal community has been waiting for! U.S. power metal cult band HELSTAR takes us on a trip to the underworld, a trip that will lead their fans to "The King Of Hell", their first studio album since 13 years!!

Expect your heroes to celebrate a furious comeback: "The King Of Hell" is a piece of work that could not be more typical for them. Even though a lot of time has passed by since their last studio album, HELSTAR still know how to kick it. "The King Of Hell" continues the tradition of the band's classics "Nosferatu", "Burning Star", "Remnants Of War" and "Distant Thunder", Of course the technical evolvement offers a lot of new possibilities, also for the veteran outfit from Houston, Texas. But together with producer Craig Douglas they perfectly managed to make "The King Of Hell" a timeless piece of fantastic music. Finally the efficient mastering by Achim Koehler (Brainstorm, Primal Fear) took its share on refining the album. That's U.S. power metal with a slight progressive edge, at its very best!

Now "The King Of Hell" fulfills the promise that was given by the band when they presented "Sins Of The Past" last year: to give all their supporters a new killer album that will amaze all their old fans and at the same time show a new generation of metal fans with unmistakable clearness what HELSTAR is all about.
