Chris Pennie is possibly the best drummer I have ever seen, ever.
Anyone who thinks Dillinger Escape plan are overrated needs to see this... the man is a goddamn monster.

Now, all the drummers use this thread to post drumming stuff, I know we have a few in here.

I am off to change my pants.

Hes a great drummer with an excellent grap of complex meter and time signature. However, he often bores me (as did much of that solo) and needs more variety in his peices IMO.

I think that solo is one of the most interesting I have ever seen, his style is really jazzy and relaxed, but still heavy as anything, which I like.
He puts most metal drummers and virtuosos to shame anyway.
*cough* Portnoy *cough*

Pennie is my favourite drummer. I don't play drums, but I have read several of his interviews to get the concepts behind his playing and just apply to music in general. Truely a god of the drums.

 Dude, he's really good, but to say that he puts Portnoy to shame is quite simply ignorant, and I dont even like Dream Theatre!

Most of the drummers I would consider "the best" that I have seen are not metal. Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Ernie Adams, etc.

By the way, how exactly do you put a Virtuoso to shame?

I am not talking technically, I just think that Pennie's style is a lot more original, yeah Portnoy is a great drummer, but fuck his solos can be boring, and wanky. In the context of DEP's music, Pennie is always mindblowing, but completely tasteful.

EDIT: Yeah I am not quite sure what I meant with the Virtuoso bit... forget that.

Are you a drummer though?
This seems like a clip that would mainly appeal to drummers, otherwise it would be hard to tell what's going on.

Its cool, much of this still plays into personal taste as well as technique, style, etc.

In all seriousness, how many virtuoso drummers does the world need? They all sound exactly the same when you get down to brass tacks. And who really has a practical need to listen to music with umpteen time changes every 3 bars? Not me. Ever listen to Dream Theater? Most of their songs are generally not pleasant to listen to.

I am keen to see some En Vind drumming action now.
Haha I would be ashamed to post any videos of myself drumming here I think.

Dorian your so jaded

Dont ruin life for us kids who have yet to experience all the dissapointments and let downs to come

I was more impressed by his technique than what he was doing, he has a great feel for it and looks pretty damn relaxed considering some of the stuff he is doing.
And as for you Matt (Claws), you don't like it because you're a filthy mexican guitarist.
And you like boys.
