I'm checking Racer X samples and I found out that 'Heart Of A Lion' is original of them from 1988. And all this time I thought that was Rob Halford original stuff probably a bonus track for Japan (he does sing it in the "Live Insurrection" album). Looks kinda logical since Scott Travis was with him in Fight but not in Halford.

Does anyone knows the story of this happening?

P.S. I just check the album and is credited to Pat Lachmann, does he wrote it for Racer X?

"Heart of a Lion" was written by Judas Priest during the Defenders and Turbo sessions, and given by Rob to his friends in Racer-X.

The original Priest demo version appears on the new boxset Metalogy :)

The Halford version has slightly different lyrics.

"Rob had played me all the tunes for the next album, one being 'Heart Of A Lion', my favorite. When I found out that 'Heart Of A Lion' was not on the TURBO album I couldn't believe it! I told Rob right then and there that he's got to let me do this tune one day. Well the end of the year rolls around and Racer X are in the studio still short of an album, and it hits me - so I call Rob to see if it's all cool. He checked and said, 'Go on with it'.
"Our version turned out much more glitzy than the hard-edged first Priest version (that to me is still the best). Later on, a year or so after our release of it, we got wind that Glenn Tipton just found out it was recorded by us and was pissed as hell! Sorry Glenn... THANKS ROB!!!!!!!"

Fang stole my thunder again. A wealth of Heavy Metal knowledge is he!!!

ahah thanks but that's just because I'm a Priest fanatic and I had already searched about this song before.

The Martin quote is taken from the excellent "Judas Priest Info Pages" website, not very attractive on the graphic side, but full of very detailed content. If you're interested in obscure JP stuff, take a look at this :

Hey Flo, what's up? Long time no 'see'. How are you?

hehe, I was swaggering down memory lane and dug up some old Alcatrazz and in a roundabout way got to Racer X, thought it sounded odldy familiar and then found the Halford version after a brief site (re)search. I feel better now and more clever thanks to UMOS \m/ :p
