old computer games I downloaded this week:

helm I've played probably 80% of the games I got, this is more of an archive,/reliving old glory days/distract me from wanting cigarettes thing. thanks for the mini reviews though! I'll try and find the first system shock.

dude doom/doom 2, what's the point? I think I still have the discs for those, anyway. it's all the old 5 1/2 and 3 1/4 ones that either got lost or corrupted....

ditto what sam said about fallout. sharpshooters 4 life!

the dog ran towards me and i panicked!

that's actually one of my frustrations about the game. i don't always know why things are happening or what i did to make them happen. apparently, i had somehow completed a quest and tamed the dog, but there was no message or quest as far as i know. did i just succeed in a behind-the-scenes charisma roll? who knows.

also, people talk and say important things above their heads, and i can't always read them due to crowding or whatever, and then the words vanish.

adventure games:

Full Throttle, The Dig, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Manic Mansion, Sam and Max (all these Lucasarts games) Quest for Glory 1-4, Gabriel Knight 1-3, Conquest of Camelot, Conquest of the Longbow (Sierra games you didn't mention. Also their best) Captain Blood, Chamber of the Sci-Fi Mutant Priestesses, Leather Goddesses from Phobos, It came from the Desert, King of Chicago and the other Cinemaware games. Noctis, also. The Clue! too if you like planning burglaries.

RPG: Lands of Lore, EOB 3, ADOM, Wasteland, Fallout 1 and 2, Hired Guns, Captive, Wizardry series

Action: Warning Forever, Abuse, Adventures of Lomax, Out of this World, Flashback, Blackthorne, Prehistoric 1 + 2, N, Rootage.

Sports: TV Sports Boxing. Only. Nothing else.

That's at the top of my head. If you want I can look through my stuff for a more complete recommendation.

ok as for this

all the lucasarts stuff except for loom has been pulled from the sites cause they're bitches, but I beat almost all of those except full throttle. ditto for the sierra stuff, I'm suprised the ones I got were available. I own the qfg anthology, those are some of my favorite games EVER!! I still have working 3 1/4 discs for colonel's bequeast, gold rush, conquest of camelot. actually the only ones I can't find ANYWHERE are the gabriel knight games...if anyone can find those for me I'll be so in your debt!

totally not familiar with cinemaware, will definitely check it out

I found most of the other ones you mentioned, exept for the ones I've already beaten or still have somewhere (EOB series, fallout, out of this world, flashback, abuse, prehistorik)

dude games!! gamesgamesgames

also if you want copies of the archives I'm making by all means let me know

Man I just started playing Doom 1 and 2 a few months ago before Doom 3 came out and they're still so much fun!

If you want Gabriel Knight 1, 'cause I know it's hard to find, msn me and I'll send it over. Something like 7 megabytes? GK2 is 6 cd isos, though, so patience is a virtue. Best place to get that sort of stuff nowdays is e-mule or torrents.

Man there's a zillion great games I can't remember now that I could suggest to you. Old games are the best. I'll look through Home of the Underdogs and my collection later and give you a full list or something.

For example, the cave-taxi game, named UGH! I think. Great times. Very funny intro.

omg worms!

in college, a group of my friends had a pirated version whose case said WOEMS, so we always called the game WOEMS. we would play for many, many hours on end. one night during finals, we played from about 3pm on and finally Paul went to bed. the next morning he awoke and found me and Mike sitting on the couch in the exact same position he had left us eight hours ago, screaming "TAINT!" and "FUCK YOU!" at each other.

in the summer, I made a trip up to Boston from CT to stay in a basement apartment with these friends for the weekend. we played a lot of woems. the room we were in was maybe eight feet by ten feet, and four of us occupied the entire floor, sleeping bag/pads arranged in a row, where we lay WOEMing and getting very angry at each other all night. the next morning another friend came into the apartment and found us all asleep, controllers in our hands, WOEMS still running and the Hell music playing.

another session, my woem team had a woem named Hitler on it, and one game I hid him away underground and everyone started talking in a Russian accent and banding together to get Hitler out of his bunker. i managed to kill three of the assassins sent to finish me off, and (totally unthinkingly) leapt to my feet and screamed "HITLERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!" in triumph, awakening and freaking out the next-door neighbours.

hahaha that's excellent.

If you like worms, then the real-time clones, Liero and/or Molez are a must-try. up to 4 people can play Molez on one computer at the same time (meaning, no turn-based combat). Also I guess if there's a lot of computers connected somewhere, Soldat might be a good game to try.
