Well, Taylor, I've only done a little searching on this so far, but from what I have found, the rumor you are speaking of is one that seems to have been denied by a PR manager as nothing more than "false speculation." However, there is a lot of talk about Sony owns a patent which says that when purchasing a game, you buy the rights to play it and not the rights to the game itself, and they are planning to use this patent to make it illegal to sell PS3 games. From all that I have found, though, all of this seems to just be rumors and neither has been completely disproven or proven.
Edit: The only good thing that the PS3 has going for it is still just Metal Gear Solid 4.
Edit 2: Here's basically what every website I have found so far is saying: http://www.ps3land.com/article-392.php. Now, many are denying both rumors, but from what Sony has said, it only debunks the one that you mentioned.

They had a huge announcement like two weeks ago where they explained it, saying they were doing it because of the game market in japan where no one buys anything but used games and sony loses a lot of money. I'll find one of the stories about it.

Yeah, but Japan is already like that anyway. I think they give things like...a 10 year lifespan before they'll make it illegal, but I don't see why they'd do this for the US market...if so, it's definitely THE worst move they could ever make. Why would anyone buy a PS3?
