CHUCK SCHULDINER: More Details About GUITAR WORLD Tribute Revealed - Jan. 22, 2007 Guitar World's April issue, on sale Feb. 13, will have a 6,000-word tribute to Chuck Schuldiner and will feature never-before-seen photos of the DEATH/CONTROL DENIED frontman from the Schuldiner family's personal collection. The issue will also contain complete guitar and bass transcriptions of DEATH's "Pull the Plug" and "The Philosopher". The feature story is written by GW executive editor Christopher Scapelliti, who interviewed some of those who were closest to Chuck and knew him best, including his mother, Jane Schuldiner, and DEATH/CONTROL DENIED drummer Richard Christy, who was Chuck's closest friend.
According to a posting on DEATH's official web site, the article covers Chuck's life and music from its happy beginning to its untimely end. Jane talks about Chuck's childhood and gives a revealing look at his difficulty overcoming the death of his brother Frank. ("He never really came to terms with it. He always missed Frank.") BLABBERMOUTH.NET writer and former Combat Records publicist Don Kaye tells the previously untold story about the label signing DEATH to their first record contract. ("[Former Combat Records head honcho] Steve Sinclair said to me, 'Somewhere in the credits, I'm gonna put, 'This record is Don Kaye's folly.'") And both Jane and Richard reveal Chuck's struggles to complete the second CONTROL DENIED album during the last months of his life. ("He drove himself unmercifully that last year," says Jane.
