I think the recitals of the Quran, like any ancient religious music, is beautiful. I love early religious music, its an excellent precursor to Baroque and classical music, and influences from the Middle East, including recitals of the Quran, play a strong part.

You folks need to realise that without much of this middle eastern influence on the music, more than half the music of today (if not all) would not be around in its current form. Its an important educational realisation if you are a true music lover.

@The Hubster: good point there.

but this guys voice is not that strong and he doesn't vary it as some guys do, so this is perhaps not the best introduction. there are some reciters with really incredible voices. if you happen to hear it somewhere, you may be amazed. it can be hypnotic.

well you will be missing out on a lot of good music. there is a whole lot of vocal music composed for religious occasions and based on religious texts. most of the best music for chorus and orchestra is liturgical - eg. palestrina's stabat mater, bach's st. matthew passion, mozart's requiem, berlioz's requiem etc.

More like, basically all art of any medium produced before a certain point (probably the 19th century somewhere) is religiously influenced (partly cause you'd be a social outcast if you didn't praise god constantly). If you whine about stuff you can't understand due to it being in a foreign language (or instrumental stuff) because it's religious you're probably a bm retard that's just trying to be hardcore. I think religion pretty much sucks, but if something's religiously influenced who the hell cares unless it HAS lyrics, they're in a language you can understand, and the lyrics are really annoyingly and clearly religious (ex. neal morse ;_; ).

I wouldnt argue that this is THE best...!!...but its def. one of teh best reciters...!!!....thye lead prayer at teh grand mosque in Makkah...the holiest places in the muslim world.....I partcualrly am fond of Sheilh Sudais (the 2nd clip).....always have been.....I remember when I was 10...i would record everytime he came on teh TV...!!!!.....it was jsut mezmerizing....so beautiufl...adn his voice has such a hypnotic effect...and then to actaully witness this is the actual mosque ......!!!!...it was the best experience of my life...!!!.....PEAC EOUT

I find it ironic that some people here have issues with religious aspects of music given the amount of it that is in metal.

The earliest forms of dark music were soley religiously inspired and have evolved into many kinds of dark music that we now love.

"True" music was first composed or conceived as an aural representation of religious worship. Initially, vocal styles featured sustained delivery, until things evolved into operas, and through to modern music.

The role of the voice in these early times was as an instrument itself, and this is also reflective with Quran recitals. (Early music and earlier Baroque works feature accompanying instruments designed to imitate the voice, and much of the music was written around the voice as well... this relationship became seperated as virtuosic playing evolved.)

The beauty of Quran recitals entails much of the above characteristics. It is a pure musical expression, if people cannot realise this, then they have no concept of the true meaning of music. Fuck the politics and some of the racist comments here, and listen to the music.
