Ok, anyone have any advice as far as online distro. CD Baby and Tunecore probably being the largest of the two. What else is there? And if you use one of the previously mentioned, why?

Any info would be appreciated.

anyone with a tax id# or social security number can upload on itunes. I hear they take a LONG time to process to request though. I would make sure they have the tracks a few months before the release date if you can. I would just roll with itunes if it was me, although I dunno anything about rates and profits or any of that. I did look into it a bit though because I was toying with the idea of starting a small band oriented label.

I use Tunecore, last time around it was approx 4 weeks for the album to go live in the iTunes store. I've known bands to have theirs go up in as little as 2 weeks, and I know plenty who have had nightmares dealing with them when it comes to iTunes. The other stores like Amazon mp3 were available pretty quickly.

If you want quick easy digital distro, go with Bandcamp. I love them - no up front costs whatsoever, immediate payment when purchases are made, you set the price, and the purchaser can pick which type of format they download in. Pretty cool. Since there's no cost, you can put it there to have it immediately available while you're waiting for iTunes to go live. On the downside, there's no "social" aspect to it, so you have to make sure people have a direct link to your band's page there so they can find it.
