Opening Band

they were fucking horrible. screamfest usa. run of the mill music. and like everybody has said, a pantera jr. complex without musical talent.

Nice guys though, they were sitting next to me @ the HOB bar. I talked with the lead singer for 10 - 15 minutes. Very cool story how they're from New York and Scott hooked them up big time by letting an unknown band open for them. The guy was saying something about being on an upcoming VH1 special too.

It was hard not to like them after meeting them and seeing how hyped they were about opening up for Thrax. Give 'em a break.

Seriously, I have yet to hear one note of music you wrote Sean:Smug: It takes balls to open for national bands like that. I wasn't that into the bands that opened for the Detroit show but with that being said I respect them for trying and know how nerve wracking it is to open for a bunch of people who are ready to dismiss the band before they even play a note of music...

we all have our own opinion and dude, I have seen tons of concerts since the early 1980's. I have seen many bad and many new bands. It doesn't take that much to open for headliners as I know many promoters and I know how they get many locals and new bands onto tours/ individual city shows.

please, they were one of what probably is many bands that worshipped Pantera and instead of putting their influences slightly into their own music, they totally drown their music in their pantera worship. Yet, they do it with the later Pantera style when dimebag wasn't doing the awesome solos he had done earlier in Pantera's history.

As for them being cool as people and how that should influence how I feel about their music, I have met many cool dudes who happened to be in shitty sounding bands.

Yeah, I met several different local band members in Detroit and from personal experience you knew they were gonna get dissed but so stoked to be up there.
Shit, they wasn't even told that an additional band was coming w. 'Thrax. That made for a nice 6 opening bands.:hypno: :yell:

Im surprised to hear so much negativity about the opening band...the crowd was amped up and seemed to dig them and the pit was pretty live during there set

Doesnt take much effort? Let's hear your band. I too have been an avid fan of Metal since the 80's, so that makes me just as much as a self-proclaimed "expert" on critisizing bands as you. But see, that's just it, it's one thing to sit in the crowd and be a critic, but it's another thing to be behind the scenes and actually know what's up.

Anthrax are our family. We didnt go through promoters or the usual means, as you have assumed. We were toasting Royal Crown and Coke with Anthrax after the our set, while you were running home to talk shit on the internet.

So, you don't like my band, that's cool, I actually respect your opinion. I myself am highly critical of bands as well. But don't come on here and talk shit and utter your uninformed bullshit. You dont like my music, fine, but dont come on here using your "scene points" as leverage. I dont care how many CDs you have listed up on the internet, or whatever "elitist weenie" shit you do on the interent to show "how Metal" you are.

Ok. I'm done here. I'm gonna go throw on my I Am The Law 12" and be more Metal than you... :Smug:

PS - MyHatred's comment about, "I have yet to hear one note of your music" made me laugh my fucking ass off.

I for one am envious of everyone that was at either of those shows.I'm in Pittsburgh and God only knows when I'll get to see the boys.Rob your band had to have been something,to be opening those nights, who is his band opening for anyway?Look I'm not one to start talking shit or anything like that but I just felt the need to back ya up on that brother, but also in defense of Sean it was his opinion, maybe it wasn't necessary for some to be so harsh but they are entitled to be just don't let it get to you, remember in this business there's always gonna be critics.

Rob, what's up brother?? My boys were the band right before you guys (South Gate) at the Detroit show. Sorry I didn't catch much of your set, I was busy loading the trailer, from what I did hear it sounded good. Yeah, some of these jackass wannabes like to pop off on the internet where they can be bad asses and talk shit. It is tough opening for a national like Anthrax, selling 100+ tickets for their show, playing in front of "their crowd" and getting a half ass sound mix. For the most part though it can be a great opportunity for an unknown band and South Gate has had pretty good luck with nationals at Harpos...Hatebreed :worship: were cool as shit and their crowd loved SG (second best pit of the night hands down), the Anthrax crowd is obviously older and more mellow than Hatebreed fans so we didn't expect quite the same reaction.

If in the future you fellas want to come thru Detroit, look us up...keep it real and stay metal brother

You hit the nail right on the head, I am in the process myself of securing a spot opening for Eyehategod. I have only opened for one national band in my time but it couldn't have been funnier. My old band opened for Gwar of all bands about 5 years ago, you can imagine how openminded their crowds are and how receptive they were to our music:grin: . We were getting booed and had assclowns throwing shit at us the whole time. The only thing I could do is laugh and just shrug it off....Oh well there is always going to be some dick in the crowd who is a "metal expert". Congrats to the guys who opened for Thrax in Detroit, most of the bands IMO were pretty good

What's up bro? I think you'll a lil confused. We didnt play the Detroit shows, we played the 2 nights in Chicago. We were the only opener for both nights.

But I wanna take this time to thank everyone for backing us up on this board, and the countless people that were digging OHR at both shows. It's a weekend that I will hold dear til the day I die. I've been an Anthrax fan since 1985 and to open for them was a high honor! :worship:
