Opeth off-date @ The Troc. In Philly

Best Opeth show I've seen since I saw them in Feb. 2004 at the same venue. Was thrilled to hear Godhead's Lament and Under the Weeping Moon. Everyone was on, Mikael seemed a lot happier and more into it than he did when I saw them Sunday at Gigantour, and as I stated in the Axenrot thread, Axe was damn near flawless. Blah blah blah Windowpane fill, whine all you want, Axe is definitely not butchering Lopez's parts by any stretch of the imagination ... I look forward to hearing what he contributes to the next album.

Here's the setlist, if you're curious:

Ghost of Perdition
Leper Affinity
Face of Melinda tease (about 1 minute into it before it fell apart, lol)
Godhead's Lament
Windowpane
Under the Weeping Moon
The Grand Conjuration
Deliverance

Encore:
70s Porn Jam w/band member introductions (Mike = Bubba Smith)
Demon of the Fall

So, no Bleak or Wreath for me, but hopefully next tour ...

Awesome fucking show!!!-I should of went down to the floor for the whole concert!!!...fuck...haha...the sound is alot clearer and I was able to discern the vocals better-Great night...the 70's porn jam was funny,as was mike-top form.--BTW what exactly did mike say the one time...About roadrunner I thought? I love how mike was like "Next up I am going to Introduce myself..You here...So I want it to be louder then the others" etc. something along those lines...Classic.

^ kind of predictable setlist, I figured they'd play the 5 from Gigantour, plus TGC and Demon. I didn't really expect them to break out anything too obscure because they'd have to rehearse it just for the 1 night. Nevertheless, sounds like a great show and that's cool they played Under the Weeping Moon again/

What happened with the Face of Melinda? more details please... :)

I was up in the balcony section but from what I gathered...People were screaming songs..and mike was like "So what do you want to hear" along those lines roughly...So they went into f.o.m and They just kinda let it "fall" apart..and mike was like "We have not played that one for awile" It was definately a tease and meant to be.I suppose-I did not get the feeling they were going to play it in it's entirety...Would of loved that though.

One of the best lines of the night definately had to be when mike was like "Thank you all for coming out to the show,see...Not that you would know but the 20 $ you spent is going towards the slavery of ? that are building me a castle in sweden" haha....lmao...I wish I remember exactly what he said....very close though.

This is the first time I've posted here in some time, but I was forced to voice concern over last night's show at the Troc in Philadelphia.

Opeth playing-wise was spot-on.

Opeth sound-wise was an abomination. I've seen Opeth more than I can count at this point, and last night was easily the worst mixed show I've ever been to -- I've been to a lot of shows at the Troc and a large percentage suffer from awful mixes. The whole mix was OFF OFF OFF. Vocals were muted, guitars seemed out of synch -- hey, solo time...make it REALLY loud --- and where were the keyboards and bass? The drums sounded weak as well.

Imagine Opeth performed through a nice fluffy pillow and that's what happened at the Troc.

I didn't want to focus on the negative, but yeah, the mix was terrible. Didn't necessarily have a problem with the vocals (could have been a bit louder maybe) or the drums (crystal clear to my ears), but the keyboards and Peter's guitars were definitely buried DEEP. For instance, in the one part in the beginning of TGC where Mike plays noises and Peter keeps playing the riff, I couldn't hear the riff at all. Bass wasn't too bad, but like the vocals, could have been a bit louder in spots. The real problems were 2nd guitars and keyboards. Dreadfully low.

As per my previous post though, didn't prevent me from enjoying the show. :headbang:

Yea, the mix was pretty bad. Was it just me, or was that keyboard chord way off key in Windowpane? It was a lot of fun, and a good show, nonetheless. The vocals were hard to hear, but I could hear everything else fine. Except the first riff in Leper Affinity-I couldn't even tell what it was. And I would've had no idea that there were even keyboards in there, if I didn't know/see Per there.

The performance and set list was fucking awesome. I was thrilled to hear "Godheads Lament" and "Under The Weeping Moon". Plus, as usual, Mikael was hilarious. Still though, I must agree that the mix wasn't very good. For the first few songs, Axenrot didn't have his hi-hat open enough, and it sounded very weak (on top of the fact that the drums weren't loud enough to begin with). The keyboards were nearly inaudible for the most part. But, putting aside the negative, it was a great show with a great set.

I think the soundboard man was deaf with double cochlear implants. Unbelievably bad sound. Oh well.

Opethfawkingrules, were you and your girl upstairs in the first row? Just asking cause this girl looked like she hated opeth. Nice bum though.

I believe that was me!...lol...She has no taste...saves the day, etc. haha...the mix was off...yes...the sound was bad...the mix...set-list and performance were great...It did sound alot better on the floor..vocals(growls) were more discernable/louder) shame on the sound guy!!!..great show though...mike was hilarious!!! Damn shame the vocals were so low and the bass too high....great none the less.

the mix was bad on the first song (GoP)... other than that the only thing that was majorly wrong was Peter's guitar being too low. That always happens though.
