Opeth on the radio?

Opeth's songs aren't made for mainstream radio! :Smug:

Sure they are. Damnation in particular. I could easily see that on FM radio here in the States. It's just a matter of their label being able to get them into the right places: i.e., money.

The mere fact that any of you listen to the radio is awful. EVERYTHING about it is commercialized, even the so-called "quality" programs that feature talk-shows and discussions. All of it is just some guy or girl who's at the extreme of what they stand for and they bitch about what's wrong with the world. It makes me sick. Not even our classic rock stations are good, they play only the most popular of the popular. I've never heard them play Atomic Rooster or The Band or even ELP! Radio = teh wankery.

There's a sort of radio / music channel on digital cable here which plays music songs while the album cover is on screen and some facts show up. They have played Opeth many times on the metal channel, especially songs from Deliverance.

Last Friday I was at a pub wracking up billiards and the sweetest jukebox in the world died. So, the bar turned on the radio. Fine whatever. It was late and the Metal Zone (now called the Gonzo Hour) was about to start on 94.1 WHJY out of Providence, RI.

I heard "When you hear Opeth..." and everything else went blah blah blah. Did they just say they were going to play Opeth on 94.1????? Talk about shocked. I never heard it coming out of the radio before. No difference, I know. But still.

40 minutes later, they turn the radio off to try and get people out so they could close. A metal friend got the girl to turn it back on AND GUESS WHO WAS PLAYING. Goosebump city. It played for approximately 20 seconds and the manager turned off the radio for good. It was closing time.

BASTARDS! I figured out it was Wreath later.

Material from the Deliverance album is played regularly on a commercial radio station here in Casper, Wyoming. They are NOT an underground band, by any means. This station also plays Nsync.
