I've never really gotten into Solefald, despite Borknagar's keyboardist being in that band. I take Opeth only because I have almost all their albums. I've only heard a couple Solefald songs, which were good but not quite what I'm looking for. I didn't like what I heard from their viking metal material.

solefald aren't a good band. last one i bought was Red for Fire, and it was just a complete disaster of an album IMO.

I only have Solefald's 'Black For Death', and judging by that, Opeth are a lot better.

Two very different artist musically. So different that choosing between one or the other is almost a Lose Lose situation. I am going to have to say Solefald though.

I used to like Opeth, but they bore me now. I love Solefald atm so Solefald ftw.

Would it be fine to judge Opeth on Damnation alone? No.
Using the same logic it isn't okay to judge Solefald on their last two albums.

If you were to take Damnation and any other Opeth album, then I'd say thats a fair comparison. Damnation is an amazing album I think. So I don't see a problem with it. You on the other hand think Solefald's last two albums suck ass, but who's fault is that exactly? Not mine. If a band writes shit albums, then they should expect to get some negative feedback towards them.

Damnation is actually Opeth's most different album, Opeth should be known for one of their other albums like Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Still Life, My Arms, Morningrise, or Deliverence.

Style wise the albums are completely different though, which is why I said not to judge the band on them.
