So what does everybody think about the new Eddie that Maiden chose for their new album tour promotion??

I've heard some say he's too spooky, and others wonder about how many pics can be cut & spliced together? I'm debating whether he looks like a Klingon circling Uranus, or a candidate from Pet Cemetary.

He's not the lovable denison we've come to expect, what shall we name him?

I can get a similar result from throwing some magazines and school paste in a blender.

As a standard illustration, its classic Mel Grant...I love the overall look of the piece. I think this is similiar to the "green " Eddie we saw on the Maiden website a tour or so ago...It might be part of something more detailed or a single...Not the actual cover art.

People keep talking about "The Final Frontier" as a space theme but it could delve into any number of subjects including nightmares/dreams, mind control etc....

I agree that, as a piece of art, it's pretty cool...aside from all the extra weird fangs on the bottom jaw. I like it for that.

As an "Eddie"....it's pure crap. It doesn't even look remotely like Eddie. Back when they asked Melvyn to do the Fear Of The Dark cover, he wanted to take Eddie in a vastly different direction and change him a lot. At the time, the band told him not to stray too far. Looks like he finally got his wish. :(

That is NOT Eddie!

Maybe if they didn't have a falling out with Derek Riggs - he could've created a cool eddie for them. It looks like a illustration of eddie that a junior artist then digitally painted in photoshpo with 1000 layers blended on top.

Nothing special. There's 10,000 video game artists here who can craete that with thier eyes closed.

Just for the record...there is no current "falling out" between Derek and Maiden. They have been talking....discussing ideas and such. Derek even submitted several (6 or 7, I believe) rough sketches to the boys. However, for whatever reason, they decided to use someone else.

Yeah, Derek also created the art for the "Fright 666" poster that was released last year, so things seem to be good between him and the guys.

You sure about that? He still has zero Eddie pics on his site to this day:

"This link has been removed
by Derek Riggs

This is because Iron Maiden are complaining
about which pictures are on my site,
and then they started quoting contracts at me.

Right now I am too tired and too busy
to work out what they are complaining about
so I have removed the entire link.

So if you want to see the pictures
you will have to buy the book
"Run for Cover, the art of Derek Riggs"
which is available from my website shop.
Enjoy the rest of the site.
Have a better one (than I did)
all the best"

Yes, I'm sure. :)

Contrary to popular belief, Derek may get temporarily annoyed (just like all of us) over something, but he's got a short memory for stuff like that, and he doesn't hold grudges. Like I said, he provided the band with many sketches this time around and was hopeful to get the job...but they simply chose someone else.

There's an obvious reason why they didnt use Riggs for the new art...His sketches, more than likely, werent very good.
His digital work is sub-par and he lost his painting skills a long time ago (see the Run For Cover cover art). Grant has far surpassed Riggs in quality with digital art. One is an illustrator, the other is a cut and paste guy...A high tech "clip art" artist, nothing more....Plus his recent Eddies look like theyve been hit in the face with a shovel.

I respectfully disagree.

I don't recall asking for your worthless opinion.

Me too.

The SBIT and Flight 666 are some of the coolest Eddies Maiden have had in LONG time! :kickass:

The SIT Eddie itself was okay...The rest was re-hashed from Powerslave with sand and textures gleaned from photos.

The Flight 666 Eddie looked like a flat faced Orangutan with Phillis Dillers hair that hasd been smashed in the face with a shovel...the rest of the image is copied from stock photos and pasted together, plus the overly blurred background is annoying as hell.

His Maiden England re-hash was, in one word, HORRIBLE.

Grants Breeg piece was better than all three of these combined.

I can see why you like the images though... Sometimes fandom can cloud ones common sense.

He is busy with projects other than Maiden..probably too busy to bother with putting them back up at the moment. Not doing the new cover will hurt Maiden more than it does Derek.
