Opinions - Tama Star Classic?

The birch Starclassics (called the Starclassic Performer) is probably my favorite rock/metal drum kit out there. As long as it's in good shape it's going to sound great.

I also much prefer the birch to the maple. The crappy thing is you can't get the all-birch versions anymore, only birch-bubinga (which is cool but it's a different sound).

No kidding? That's some of the best drums ever. Birch is awesome for metal.

one more vote for birch!
i have sonor force 2007 all birch model, which is quite cheap kit but with new heads (preferably emperors) it sounds awesome.

Tell me about it dude!

Guy is a friend of the band I am recording right now. He says ....

Him: Hey I got a Tama Star Classic if you want to use it for the studio its in storage

Me: Yea that would be cool

Him: Ill leave it there for you to use in exchange for recording lessons

Me: DEAL!

So not only do I get a FREE A/E (in time) I get a killer Drumset .... hahaha!

Nice, I used to have one. Wasn't too fond of the snare and kick sound, but those toms sounded GIANT (mine was a 12, 13, 16" kit). I now have a maple PDP kit that is much better balanced, which I overall prefer, but I was listening to a recording I used the Starclassic on the other day and those toms were ridiculous... I don't even think I had any EQ or compression on them either, just straight miced sound with a 57 was mind-blowing
