Originally released from 1983-87, the band's 3 albums and Full Moon's Eyes EP are available on 2 CDs (sold seperately). I'd never heard of this band prior to seeing the Cd's at The End while browsing and took a chance with both of them - Glad I did. Compared to many other recordings from that period, the quality is impressive though still clearly not up to today's standards. The music (though I'm still getting acquainted with the CDs) seems to have heavy Brocas Helm style sound with clear Sabbath and classic rock influences. Though (IMO) not as epic sounding as Brocas Helm, Manilla Road, or other bands of that calliber - it is a heavy, guitar dominated sound that fills a gap between Judas Priest & Sabbath's Volume 4.

I wonder what Carnut thinks of them.

Very good band, I have an original copy of the Full Moon's Eyes EP as well. Also check out Crossfire.

I was very tempted to order those as well - I found 2 of the CD's (Reissued with 2 original albums on each of 1 CD) but after reading some reviews I talked myself out of buying them. I think you've sparked my interest in them again. Thanks. :headbang:

I think Crossfire isn't as good as Ostrogoth. They are more a speed Metal band. Some good songs, but Crossfire was primarely a good live band. Another Belgian to check out is Ritual. You can hear them on Vibrations of Doom.(http://vibrationsofdoom.com/test/test2/Ritual.html) They only have one EP, but a very good one. If you can get your hands on the vinyl under the 100$ mark jump on it. Only 500 copies were made ...
Ostrogoth, Ritual and Acid are about the best 80's bands to come out of Belgium. For the rest there was a bunch of bands that released albums but were rather "avarage" I think; Bad Lizard (first EP is very good), Westfalen, Pariah, Killer, Scavenger, Lion's Pride, Trial...
I should go back and listen to their albums again, maybe some stood the test of time good and maybe sound ok now... Guess most of them also can be found at Vibrations of Doom.

Some guys of Ostrogoth play in a Classic Metal band "Double Diamond" now. I think they even released some CD's, but from what I heard it's "avarage" again, nothing special. There are some songs on Youtube, this should be the best one:

I checked Ostrogoth out of curiosity and found it very interesting, most definitively goes into my (very, very long wisj list), Crossfire on the othr hand didn't got me something in the vocals.

Thanks to everybody for pointing this band out.

I see you've got the Ostrogoth CD's already. You're going to have to share your opinion on these...PLEASE. I'm realy curious to know what you think. Still I'm unable to quite figure your tastes out..

I ordered the Crossfire CD yesterday with the new Slough Feg from the End.. I'll be sure to let you know if it's better than I anticipate it to be.

Holland had a much richer Heavy Metal scene in the 80s. I suggest you look into the old Netherlands scene as well.

Generally, I discover the bands & their origin while browsing CD vendors or after purchasing the albums. Ive yet to attempt searching for bands by country.

Can you recommend any bands as good starting point?

Some bands that I know because are famous in the underground, but I didn't have the joy to listen yet, are Martyr, Picture, Black Out and Vortex.

Well first my deep gratitude to the people for pointing this band out. It was one of those names that rang a bell years ago, but never cared or had the chance to check them.

Second, since everything it's relative to the individual and therefore taste is ALWAYS subjective, what will follow applies more than ever to the famous IMO :) :

In the old days I bought few albums and like few bands, I still do in a way compared to PMR and other peole here :saint: , part is money issues and a lot is narrow taste issues  . All and all with so much music been bought and expose too these days thanks (or accursed be) to Internet in a way one get jaded and some music gets you like yeah I enjoy it.
But then it's the case of those bands/albums that suddenly hit you like a ton of bricks (Metal Church patented) Obstruction, Brain Surgeons NYC and Ostrogoth had made that effect on me in the last months.

I was yesterday night listen to the Ostrogoth remasters and I was how the fuck I never listen to them before? So in a weird way I'm happy I got their material remastered altogether now, so I can overdose on them :headbang:

My firm believe and here applies the initial paragraph it's that Ostrogoth is something that EVERY old schooler should be expose too and have it on the collection if possible.

Hadn't heard Martyr or Black Out yet & I've been tempted to check out Vortex which I may just do sooner now. Didn't realize Picture was from the Netherlands. I've got their first 4 albums (1980-1983). 'Heavy Metal Ears" has a straight-forward Motorhead style sound which is actually quite good. The other 3 CD's seem to include a bit more diversity and are also very good.

The best from Holland IMO is Goddess Of Desire, that's pure straighforward metal. You can't go more than a mix of Motorhead with Celtic Frost attitude to have one hell of great

Oops, how I could forget Defender. It's the only big dutch band I have listened to and I forgot them. :D

You can also check out Powervice, a new band that unfortunately disbanded earlier this year having released only a fantastic demo.

I may have a bit of Defender stuff stocked away. I'm showing something in my log titled '"City Ad Mortis" from 1987. Haven't checked to see if it's the same Defender you're talking about. I took Wyvvern's advice & started logging my collection so I don't end up with dupes anymore. (Something I should have done years ago.)

I'll look into Powervice - Still haven't had a chance to DL the Exoristoi you've linked. I hope you don't plan on deleting that link soon - I've been determined to DL some hard to find stuff from the newsgroups before it expires. Things just take a lot more time with dial up.

Hammerhawk is very good basically Motorhead (like Vulcain in France or Superchrist in USA) and on a totally different league Arabesque (prog/power).

France is one of my favourite '80s metal countries.

Except for the bands Necuratul has mentioned, check out also Blaspheme and High Power (from the mighty '80s). Today the coolest french underground band is Malediction, really brilliant heavy metal.

@PowerMetalRebel: Of course I don't plan to delete the mp3s from Exoristoi.

I agrre with both of you (still need one of the High Power albums) and besides Malediction add also Manigance to the list, great prog-power IMO.

Another interesting band is Attentat Rock, not as heavy as the ones mentioned but worth to check.

I die to have the Satan Jokers albums in CD format, and more ADX, basically all that Axe Killers had is impossible to find and Brennus are usually very expensive and/or difficult to find. Luckily I manged to find all Sortilege, H-Bomb, Blaspheme, Attentat Rock, Malediction, Manigance on CD, almost all High Power, some Killers and one ADX :(
Satan Jokers I have their albums but as MP3s only.

Wyvern, I have "Trop Fou Pour Toi" by Satan Jokers in CD format. :p

The Killers albums are the easiest to find. Go to their official site (www.killers.fr.fm) and you can buy them from their online store, for very fair prices (10 € each). They have released a new album recently.

My problem is that I haven't found any original CD of H-Bomb or ADX (and I don't count Weird Visions, which is an english sung one) yet. :(

I don't think H-Bomb has ever been released on CD, but I know that a few ADX have, like the first one, which I just bought from Amazon.

I hate to be more despicable than I'm already are but...

NP: H Bomb - 'Exterminateurs'

Hey, that's good to know. Where did you get them?

I got both some 4-5 years ago when I was living in USA. "Attaque" I believe was through Amazon or e-bay. "Coup De Metal" I did got it on e-bay (shot of luck). Amazon carries "Attaque" through vendors at a reasonable price.

I do acknowledge that I had been extremely lucky getting H-Bomb and Sortilege, since Axe Killer died and the albums went OOP, plus they were originally limited copies editions.

Best of luck mate :kickass:
