OT: Atlanta now home to world's largest indoor aquarium

It's rumored that there will be a dunk tank over the Hammerhead shark habitat just for the 2006 ProgPower weekend where captured PPVII bootleggers can get dunked (and videotaped) by any band who was being taped.

Now that would be worth seeing! I'm so mad at those damn bastards that have ruined it for the rest of us! A "pox" on them all!!!

but, I'm not bitter or anything...

The place is very expensive. 21 bucks for adults and I believe 16 for kiddies which is fine if you are going alone or with friends but I am part of a family of 4 and that will turn out to be with food and stuff for the kids a 150 buck visit. But I still plan to see it once the hype dies down

I figure pretty soon there should be "packages" offered, like hotel, air, etc. There's gotta be some sort of a marketing campaign that will go on for the future for discount tickets.

Maybe all of us should chip in and buy one, year-long pass and then we can all "sign it out" like a library book during the weekend (ha ha).

I always plan on trying/doing at least one new thing/attraction every year. So when I heard that this had opened, it went on the the list for the Thursday before PP event.

I can't wait to see the Baluha Whales. I just love them. They look like Pillsbury Dough Boys. hahha

The newspaper here had a special pullout section on the Aquarium -- in fact, their heavy coverage of the Aquarium's opening has become the butt of numerous jokes submitted by readers in the same paper -- and one of the issues it mentioned was ticket discounts.......or more accurately, a surprising lack of same. So far, there have been no 'special deals' worked out with the major hotel chains to offer hotel+aquarium package prices.

I figure they'll probably hold off on those for at least a few months to soak as much money off the opening buzz -- it isn't hurting ticket sales any! -- but hopefully by ProgPower-time, they'll be offering some discounts. Currently you have to buy a timed ticket, meaning you select your arrival time (but you can stay as long as you want), but later it seems they'll be dropping that.

Looking at the pics, it might actually be worth $22...and this is coming from someone who grouses about paying $15 for parking at a show. :)

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

Shedd's not hooked by Atlanta fish story...

There's a new "big fish'' in the aquatic world: Atlanta is boasting it has the "world's largest aquarium."

Not so fast, says the Shedd Aquarium, which has claimed the title for decades.

True, the new Georgia Aquarium has more water. And it has more fish.

But Shedd notes its own lakefront facility has three times more species and figures it has more square footage of exhibit space.

It's only $22? That sounds very bueno to me.

I'll be petrified the tank will break and the water and slimy fishies will be all over us. What a mess! I'm also deathly afraid of bananas though so what do I know? :)

I have to confess, I'm a little skittish about that, too. Second-biggest aquarium window in the world..... That transparent tunnel, under all that water.... It just seems like a disaster movie waiting to happen. :err:
