Did anyone here see Quantum of Solace over the weekend? Being a long-time James Bond 007 fan, I've seen every Bond film in theaters since A View to a Kill back in 1985. Of course, Casino Royale (2006) is a very tough act to follow, given the way it was portrayed in the big screen. There are a lot of mixed reviews on this new film mainly because critics had way too high hopes for it. Yes, the film's plot is not easy to follow and the running time is pretty short for a Bond film, but I still found it very enjoyable. It destroys Pierce Brosnan's last two movies and may make you forget about the Roger Moore era.

Daniel Craig does a great job reprising his role as James Bond. His portrayal is more cold-blooded, but not dull and boring like Timothy Dalton's version. The one-liner humor and gadgets found in Bond films of the past are nowhere to be found here; just a lot of action and suspense that makes a Bond film what it should be. We get a brutal car chase scene on the opening sequence that is, IMO, probably the best of its kind since Ronin. Seeing an Aston Martin DBS getting mutilated like that will make most people cringe, but throughout the chase, it rightfully serves its purpose unlike the Bond cars of the past that were just for show.

As far as Bond Girls go, Olga Kurylenko is just random. Never mind the fact that she's probably the first Bond Girl to not sleep with Bond at all. Her on-screen chemistry with Bond was almost non-existent. Hell, I was more interested in that hot redhead Gemma Arterton.

Overall, it's not a perfect Bond film. But let's face it - this new film series is about a James Bond 007 who is still rough on the edges and nowhere near as polished as Sean Connery. And that alone makes Quantum of Solace worth the full ticket price.
