PAIN OF SALVATION MAKE RARE UK APPEARANCE AT SUMMERS END FESTIVAL
Swedish prog-metallers PAIN OF SALVATION will make a rare UK appearance when they headline the Saturday of the Summers End Festival at the Robin, Bilston, Nr Wolverhapton on September 15th. The gig will also mark UK concertgoers final chance to see the legendary Johan Langell occupy the drum stool.
On Sunday 16th THRESHOLD will play the only UK date of their Dead Reckoning European Tour. The band will have DAMIAN WILSON singing following the recent departure of long standing vocalist Mac.
Says festival organiser Huw Lloyd-Jones:
“This is the first time that the Summers End Festival has booked prog metal bands and we’re very excited to have both of them. We’re massive fans of Pain of Salvation, and Daniel Gildenlow is something of a hero. We’re particularly excited, as the band will be playing a full set, in support of their acclaimed “Scarsick” album. Threshold’s “Dead Reckoning” album is probably their best yet, and so we think it’s quite a coup to get them. While losing Mac is a blow for fans, to replace him with a singer of the quality of Damian Wilson, who already has a history with the band, is terrific.”
The festival kicks off on Friday 14th with a pre-show concert at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton, featuring British veterans GALAHAD and JUMP.
Saturday 15th kicks off in the afternoon with up and coming melodic prog band TINYFISH, followed by Floyd-esque Germans ABARAX. Headlining the afternoon session will be Celtic prog band KARNATAKA. The evening session includes prog band ALSO EDEN followed by PAIN OF SALVATION.
Playing on the afternoon of Sunday 16th will be ex Enid guitarist Nick May’s new band WHIMWISE with recently-reformed folk rock group SOLSTICE headlining. The evening kicks off CHRISTINA BOOTH of MAGENTA playing her debut solo set, followed by THRESHOLD and headliners, the legendary IT BITES.
Tickets cost £45 for the weekend or £27 per day from www.sonicbond.com or www.therobin.co.uk , in person from the Robin box office or by calling 01902 401211. Tickets for Galahad and Jump cost £8 and are available from www.sonicbond.com or from the Little Civic box office at www.wolvescivic.co.uk or 0870 320 7000.
