And now for a blast from the past. Sort of.
Rather than resurrect the January 12 Paladino's thread, I thought I'd post the story and pics of my very first Maidens show here.
January 12, 2008 - Just barely a week after rediscovering Iron Maiden, I went to Wikipedia to read a little more about the band. There, I found a link to The Iron Maidens. What I read drew a lot of curiosity in me, so I added the Maidens to my Friends list on MySpace. Then I found out they had a gig in the Valley. I just had to check them out.
It was around 10:30 p.m. when I arrived at Paladino's. A Pantera tribute band was just wrapping up their act. I ordered a can of Red Bull and proceeded to the front of the stage. Camera in hand, I stood on the left side of the stage as the Pantera tribute band were loading up their gear. As "Doctor Doctor" blared through the speakers, a woman with blond hair went on stage in front of me, tuning her yellow B.C. Rich guitar while a brunette stepped behind a drum kit that had a picture of Eddie doing the Steve Harris thing, as well as a stuffed teddy bear puppet draped on one of the cymbal stands.
Shortly afterwards, the lights went out. The PA system announced the introduction that I would later be accustomed to. This signaled the smoke machines to shoot out by-products of dry ice as a woman in black leather ran to the center of the stage to grab the mic while two other girls (one with a sparkling blue bass and the other with a black Jackson guitar) made their appearances as well. Behold: The Iron Maidens.
Within the next two or so hours, I was blown away by the band's performance. Their stage presence was phenomenal and they nailed the classic Maiden tunes down to the T.
After the show, I went to the table near the entrance, where the band's merchandise was displayed. There, I also got to meet the Maidens in person. It was great to know that not only were they professional on stage, they were also the most down-to-earth people you'd meet off-stage.
Aja has the voice of a Metal goddess and the energy of a true warrior.
I've never seen anyone with as much enthusiasm as Heather has.
Sara's comical personality never ends on the stage.
Wanda is all business on stage, but she's such a sweet person to chat with.
Linda is simply an all-around great person with such positivity in her heart.
As I prepare for tomorrow's Iron Maiden concert in Irvine, I look back at the night I first met The Iron Maidens. Like everyone here on the Boards, I see them not only as awesome musicians and fans of Iron Maiden, but also as great friends. I'll be seeing you girls soon.
Up the Irons!
