Riot Squad is the new album from the German thrashers!

I haven't given it a thorough listen but from what I've heard its loaded with deadly thrash riffs. My only quarel is the vocals which could at times, be a little harsher. That aside, musically speaking it could potentially be one of the better thrash releases to emerge in the past few years.

Dunno, it's ok... not loving it that much though. It's a little on the predictable side and no real dynamics. They'll never top Heresy, damn, that's an awesome album... Too many old thrash bands nowadays just think they have to be totally heavy to be metal, and it really sucks. Testament will never be the same band as on their first few albums for example, or Slayer. Or the new Defiance album... all the old bands seem to have forgotten what the spirit of thrash is all about. Except maybe Megadeth, they still hit it occasionally, but even they will never release another Peace Sells or Rust... It's down to the new breed to carry the torch, and I don't know how many of them are up to the job...

Having said all that, the new Heathen is really very ace!

could be a spirit thing, Caveman, but Axehammer didnt have that problem with Windrider. Not heard the new Heathen yet, so cant comment.

Interesting band. I still have their album Obvious puzzle. Their performances are highly energetic. I like the band but I really don't idolize them..

My vote goes for Thrashist Regime

No band can match a classic album that's why it's a classic. I mean Judas Priest made 'Painkiller" and was like :Smokin:, but never was intended to top "Stained Class" for example. "Dehumanizer" is a great album but was not intended to top "Heaven And Hell" either, But with time they can become classics on their own right, I don't know what metalheads will think 25 years from now, isn't it?

I’ve put this album on my Ipod and thrashed it a bit today at work and I can say that yeah I do slip away from the music at times but it draws me back in with certain passages. As far as Paradox are concerned I was a big Product of Imagination fan and by the time I heard Heresy I was getting into far heavier music so it didn’t hold much interest for me and I forgot all about Paradox. To be honest this album is my return to them.

Im not sure its fair to say the old bands have forgotten what the spirit of thrash metal is; I think they’ve just matured and from years and years of playing and it is immediately noticeable to the ear, the skill, album production etc. The rawness is gone and often with it the youthful aggression which buoys a lot of early metal acts but I believe beneath the surface the great ideas & riffs are still there. Unfortunately the sound does comes across a little on the sterile side but I try not to let production values get in the way of my enjoyment of a good riff and Paradox have with all their experience still managed to produce some extremely fast riffs complemented with melodic hooks that pop up all over the place.

I agree with Wyvern that we really can’t be sure what will become a classic in the future - a bands past is past and rarely ever recaptured - and I agree with you too Caveman that it’s up to the youth to inject that crazy, virile thrash vibe that we once experienced. Maybe todays youth have a different opinion on such matters; Thrashist Regime are on the right track and I’m gonna be spinning you guys at one of my club nights soon!

Cheers guys! But save the disc spinning until our new album comes out... it will be way superior to the demo... thanks so much though! And I totally see where you're both coming from. I'm not saying I dislike the newer stuff... I quite like the newest Testament for example... it just doesn't do what the old stuff did, and sometimes I wish it would. I'm still intrigued by the new Paradox and will check it out at some point... I have to say that I way prefer Heresy over Product too... I like my thrash melodic and technical, and Heresy is just the right balance between raw and tech Worth going back to if you didn't get there first time around...

I'm definitely going back to fill in my Paradox holes because this one is still kicking my arse! They excel at good melodies so their choruses capture your attention immediately. I love the way the track Nothingness is so placid and then No Place to Hide comes along and just tears you to pieces! The last song Psychofficial is a slayer along with Riptide. Riot Squad, as a whole has a real futuristic robocop kinda feel to it, which probably owes alot to production and the speed. I'm actually really enjoying Charly Steinhauers vocals now. How come I'm the only one raving about this album :zombie:

I enjoyed their previous album Electrify quite a bit, had a nice futuristic vibe to it. "Blade Runner speed metal".
I actually saw Paradox live last summer and did a quick inspection of their catalogue before the gig. The old stuff didn't really impress me, it's probably very competent thrash but I'm not the biggest thrash fan in town anyway. Still, 2008's Electrify gets a thumbs up from me and it's worth checking if you haven't already. Been meaning to pick up the new album for a while now, the few tracks I've heard have sounded quite alright and, as one could expect, stylistically closer to Electrify than the old stuff.

Sounds like they've carried that feeling over. I'm looking forward to catching up with Electrify!
