Peavey 5150 Stock vs. Heavily modded amp comparison

We were invited by Anssi Kippo who runs his Astia Studio (Children of Bodom, Empyreon etc) in Finland to show off some of our amps about a month ago. And we recorded some cool vids at his place!



EDIT: Had to reupload the video with corrected volume drops between the clips. A lot of people complained that it interfered with their ability to judge the tone of the modded amp.

Well the mod is louder.

To be fair, the voicing is different. Not sure if it's "better" tho.

I prefer the voicing of the Stock. Mod is boomy

mod seems like the bottom end is distorting more? like stock more, or in other words, its the standard. i know where im at with that.

you would have to try it yourself, who wanna ship off their trusty amp?

i feel the difference is more like a standard mesa 4x12 to a rectifier 4x12?

the mod is more hollow sounding, which i hate. just like the recto cab.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. The mod definitely brings more low mids... I prefer the stock version.

Not sure I'm digging the mids on the mod...sounds a bit stuffy, IMO.

Edit: The mod does give the amp a bit more of a Recto-ish type vibe which is cool...hard to judge without mix context.
