It's hard to find some info about damping in Peavey XXX so I decided to do a little test yesterday:

Cheers!

Straight from the manual

(22) DAMPING SWITCH
This three-position switch allows adjustment of the amplifier’s damping factor. Damping is the
REAR PANEL ability of an amplifier to control speaker cone motion after a signal disappears. A high
damping factor (TIGHT) reduces cone vibration quicker than a low (LOOSE) factor. This
switch works much like the resonance and presence controls on other Peavey amps, if those
controls were turned simultaneously. If the DAMPING SWITCH is changed, the volume of the
amp will also change and require re-adjustment.

I use the Ultra in the loose setting with my Ts-9, IMO the best one. Crunch has this kind of fizz that I don't like.

I like the ultra channels darker, less saturated high end tone as well. On it's own, the crunch channel is more of a all arounder in terms of the peavey hi gain sound, but the Ultra channel gives a nice thump when paired with my 6505. I run both amps live and the blend is sweet.

After years of owning mine, I leave it on "Mid" now. Nearly always use the Crunch channel.

Hmmm I also like Crunch at Mid section. There isn't a such a big difference between Ultra and Crunch channel, but I prefer the Crunch :)

Cool test, I've always liked the XXX, and the Bugera clone of it I had, on the Loose setting, it never got too muddy IME.

Dude i like that tone i also own a triple x but seem to be having a kinda hard time getting a good tone i like what are your setting on the ultra channel if i may ask? i would like to kinda use them as a starting point?
