Perfecting My Sound

the drums dont seem in your face enough.. try bussing kick snare and toms and slapping an L1 on it before sending it to your main drum bus.. that should beef it up.

Everything definitely needs more volume and compression. To me it just sounds like one of the out of the box slate kits. Guitars need more gain.

everything needs more volume and compression? as in compression on the master? like multiband comp.? and the guitars sound like they have enough gain, but i guess i'll add some more and see how it sounds. thanks for the input!

Try boosting the gain on the amp a tiny bit, then boost the highs and mids till you find some good pick attack. The whole thing just sounds kind of low in volume, bring things up. As for your drums, compress each piece and EQ to taste, or just throw it all into one bus and mix that, whatever you feel you want to do.

Drums wise I think what's lacking is a room sound. The kick and snare sound like it's just the close mics in the mix, which results in that "programmed"/artificial sound. Some compression would help on the drums as well - medium attack, slow release.
The guitar sounded okay but a little lifeless, pick harder to get as much juice out of the tone as possible. Try messing with a tape saturator plugin if you have one, to make them sound dirtier.
Was there a bass in there? Couldn't hear it properly... Distorting your bass lightly also helps a lot.

Try a little bit of compression on the master fader.
Use these settings just to get you started:
Attack: 1ms
release: 10-30ms
ratio: 2 or 4 try to keep it low though

then put a limiter on there; Maxim if you're in PT and pull the gain reduction down until the bar starts hitting the slider

Your guitars sound a little wooly too so try to cut the low mids around 300-500 and pull up a little on 6khz for some presence
Make sure you high pass and low pass around 125hz and 12khz (I dunno pod farm but that works for me most of the time)
It's also prob because they're too loud so bring the gain down after you eq and it'll sit a little better.

Works for my stuff most of the time
Hopefully I didn't just fuck up your mix haha
