they should shred the fuck out of this song on their new cd. If they dont, i will kill myself.

Naw seriously though, i can just imagine them conquering this song. Twould be cool.

except Phantom of the Opera isn't a song but an entire musical, unless you meant the main "theme"...

still, i think the band has already got a subject matter in mind seeing how they are working on the album.

Whats the point? Do we really need yet another band covering this?

I still stand by my comment that the two most awesome covers they could ever do would be Savage by Cacophony and Cemetary Gates by Pantera.

+1 for Cemetary Gates

This got me thinking about the position of the fan here. I'm not sure about the purpose of telling a band "please do a cover of...". It's something of a personal thing for the band, they do as they wish. You just can't tell them what to do, unless THEY open a survey or something. I dunno, on the other hand, it's fun for us to vote, but it would be kind of impossing. Anyone care to shed some light into this?

I think it's okay to suggest that a band cover a certain song, as long as they're not being pushy about it. However, how would they cover the Phantom of the Opera theme without a female vocalist?

I think the OP was requesting that SyX cover Iron Maiden's song "Phantom of the Opera". Not the musical. That would just be gay! :)

I liked the musical very much, saw it in vienna....
the music just wouldn't fit to symphony X style (i'm thinking of the main theme here). I wouldn't say it'd be gay.... just weird....

Well, I guess I should retract my statement as I was out of line. I haven't heard any of the complete score to Phantom of the Opera, so I shouldn't have commented that it was gay. I was drawing from most other musicals I've heard music from (i.e. Titanic) and most of it was quite gay. for musicals I don't think that's a bad thing, but I just don't see how they could be converted to metal. I guess I'm just not interested to find out, that's all I'm saying. Hey, maybe it would be awesome, who knows.

scanner313, you should listen to Nightwish's cover of The Phantom of the Opera. I'm not sure what the original sounded like, but this version is definately not gay! But like I said before, I can't picture Symphony X covering this song.

Why don't they do their own interpfretation of 'The Phantom of the Opera'-subject, like they did it with The "Blood-Duchess" Erzebeth Bathory in "The Damnation Game" or the "Divine Comedy" by Dante in DWot.

What I would appreciate most would be an interpretation of Milton's "Paradise Lost"

Bathory-Dressed to Kill (I'm pretty sure)

Paradise Lost (not Dante)-DWOT
