Now I read in glenn's acoustic metal guide to get the toms as flat as possible but I just wanted to clarify this.

Here's my drummers kit

He's willing to change angles or whatever id needed but I'd like some input on the matter. Thanks.

That looks fine. Drummers usually end up playing harder and getting better tone when the drums are flat, but it's difficult to get them low enough to be comfortable without angling them a little bit (unless you have a 20" kick with fast tom sizes or a really tall drummer)

Easier to hit and just uneducated? idk

Correct. On the same note, if you're going to change the tom angle you need to make sure the drummer's happy where you put them. Go for a better performance over a better sound.

It's been a long time since I've tracked live drums, but I've never positioned toms anywhere other than where the drummer wants them. The results were fine. That's not to say you won't get a better sound by moving the toms, you might, I've never tried. I've moved that kit around the room however.

Well, this may be a dumb question but I'm a guitarist: Where did the whole incredibly angled thing come into play? Is it the equivalent on wearing your guitar strap super low like Jimmy Page?

Giant kick drums and toms were fashionable in the 80s, and that was the only way that they could be positioned without being too high to reach comfortably ¯\(°_o)/¯
